madsenPlayStation and Sony Pictures Television announced today that they have cast Michael Madsen (The Hateful Eight, Reservoir Dogs) in the key role of SuperShock, one of the world’s most famous and mysterious superheroes, in Powers. Production on the second season is underway in Atlanta with Remi Aubuchon taking the reins as the sole showrunner, and will debut on PlayStation Network in 2016.

Powers, an edgy dramatic series inspired by the graphic novel series of the same name, follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.” Set amidst today’s paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals?  The new season will delve into the storyline made famous by the first comic “Who Killed Retro Girl?” as the Powers Division investigates the shocking murder of the world famous superhero (played by Michelle Forbes) and the mysteries that her death uncovers.

The ultimate Power for whom the term “superhero” was coined, SuperShock is a perfect physical specimen with an unparalleled presence that catapulted him to global fame. After retiring at the height of his career under mysterious circumstances and disappearing from public view, he emerges for the first time in forty years after the death of Retro Girl.

Michael Madsen’s long career spans 25 years and more than 170 films in which he has played memorable characters in myriad box office hits, including: Kill Bill, Sin City, Hell Ride, Die Another Day, Donnie Brasco, Species, The Getaway, The Doors, Thelma & Louise, and Free Willy. Michael Madsen is notably recognized for his role as Mr. Blonde, in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. Tarantino has also tapped him for a role in his next feature, The Hateful Eight, which hits theaters Christmas 2015. In recent years Madsen has received Best Actor awards for his role in the Irish boxing film, Strength and Honour, from the New York International Film Festival, the Boston Film Festival and the Downtown Los Angeles Film Festival. Madsen received the Golden Dolphin Award at the 25th Festroia Festival in Portugal, an award also given to veterans Kirk Douglas and Robert Mitchum. Madsen is well recognized as an accomplished poet.

The 10-episode first season of Powers finished its run in May on PlayStation Network. Episodes can be found on PlayStation Store for free streaming to all PlayStation Plus Subscribers and individual episodic purchase. Powers: Season 1 Blu-ray is also available now for purchase.

Powers is produced by Jinxworld and Circle of Confusion in association with Sony Pictures Television.  Remi Aubuchon, Brian Michael Bendis, Michael Avon Oeming and David Engel serve as executive producers.
