FX has announced that Ryan Murphy straight-to-series drama Pose has added four to its cast of series regulars – Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black); James Van Der Beek (CSI: Cyber); House of Cards alum Kate Mara; and American Horror Story‘s Evan Peters.
Maslany will play a dance teacher who takes special interest in Damon (Ryan Jamaal Swain). Van Der Beek is set as financial kingpin Matt, the boss of Peters’ character Stan, who is married to Mara’s Patty. Patty and Stan are a regular New Jersey couple who find themselves sucked into the glamour, intrigue, and opulence of New York City in the 1980s.
The quartet join a cast that includes the largest number of transgender series regulars ever for a scripted series at five, including MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar, and Angelica Ross.
From Murphy (Glee), Brad Falchuk (American Horror Story), and Steven Canals (Dead of Summer), Pose looks at the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, the downtown social and literary scene, and the ball culture world. It will be the most prominent piece of pop culture to delve into the world of ball culture since iconic documentary Paris is Burning.
Pose joins a scripted slate for FX that includes fellow Murphy series American Horror Story and American Crime Story, as well as recently renewed Better Things and Baskets, the latter of which winning Louie Anderson an Emmy in 2016.
