Deadline is reporting that Nailed It! host Nicole Byer and Pure Genius alum Aaron Jennings have joined the untitled comedy currently in development at NBC.
From Phil Jackson (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), with Nine-Nine creator Dan Goor executive producing, the series is said to revolve around a group of Black friends, their dating lives, and wine.
Byer will play Nicky.
Jennings is set as Anthony Holmes, who’s happy with his career and has a strong work commitment.
The series is one of six comedy pilots currently in contention at NBC, joining multi-cam Jefferies, created by Legit‘s Jim Jefferies and co-starring Betsy Brandt and Anthony LaPaglia; auto industry workplace comedy American Auto; Crazy For You, about an awkward woman having to get back into the dating world following years in a committed relationship; Someone Out There, a romantic comedy about two set-in-their-ways adults challenged to better themselves; and multi-cam ensemble Night School.
The network also has three series orders in Young Rock, a Dwayne Johnson origin story; 2019-20 holdover The Kenan Show; and an untitled comedy from Tina Fey that stars Ted Danson as a businessman who unexpectedly becomes mayor of Los Angeles.
In addition to her time on the Netflix competition reality series, Byer’s television credits include Loosely Exactly Nicole, The Unicorn, and A Black Lady Sketch Show, while Jennings has appeared on the likes of Insecure, The Magicians, and Stumptown. They join a cast that includes Carl Tart (Superstore), Echo Kellum (Arrow), and Justin Cunningham (When They See Us).
