Showtime has made the first episode of Penny Dreadful spinoff Penny Dreadful: City of Angels available for free days ahead of its linear television premiere. Beginning on Friday, April 24th, the episode is able to be streamed via the show’s YouTube channel and Showtime’s website.

From original series creator John Logan, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels follows Los Angeles detectives Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) and Lewis Michener (Nathan Lane) as they find themselves investigating a murder that rocked their city, already rife with social and political tension, to its core. The series takes place in 1938 and is said to explore the city’s deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, as well as weave in the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism.

In addition to Zovatto and Lane, the series stars Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Kerry Bishé (Halt and Catch Fire), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Adriana Barraza (Babel), Michael Gladis (Feed the Beast), Jessica Garza (The Purge), and Johnathan Nieves (See You Yesterday).

The series premiere of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is set for Sunday, April 26th at 10:00, where it will follow the series finale of Homeland.
