FRIDAY

SHILO: 8:00 Jane the Virgin; 9:00 Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
CRAIG: 8:00 The Originals; 9:00 iZombie

SHILO: Golden Globe Theater, at your service. With The Vampire Diaries signing off after eight seasons, Fridays at 8:00 is open for The CW and where I don’t think they’ll do something new, the most obvious candidate to move is Jane the Virgin. Jane has been looking weaker recently and where The CW would want to use one of its strongest lead-ins (Supergirl) on something new, the only spot for it to go is Fridays at 8:00. Which isn’t really a death sentence considering that the affiliate lead-in has helped The Originals, Reign, Hart of Dixie, and The Carrie Diaries look pretty okay in recent seasons; plus, Jane is compatible with 9:00 lead-out Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, so the two might end up helping each other more than we think. And where the Golden Globe nominations are announced in the fall, both shows need to be on the air for visibility’s sake, so not only does their acclaim pretty much write their fall marketing campaign, airing them together would cut the damage they do to the schedule while not leaving either out to dry.

CRAIG: Neither of the shows that I’ve listed here are officially renewed, but who could resist a vampires and zombies night? I’m assuming that one or both of the shows will have limited runs, and in the case of The Originals, a “final season” type wrap-up that those fans deserve. Also, Friday night horror… sounds like fun. Fridays can be reassessed at midseason, maybe with Supernatural and/or The 100 sliding over; who knows.
