The CW’s 2017-2018 Schedule: Thoughts & Predictions

Most Surprising (Possible) Renewal: Though I really think they should renew it, I’d be a little surprised if The Originals comes back, just because they have had four seasons. Ratings aren’t that bad, though, so who knows. Actually, I’ll be a jerk and say this: Frequency will be my most surprising renewal. Because, why not?

Show That Likely Won’t Be Renewed But Should Be: Smallville. What, that ended six years ago? Seriously, though, I’m going with The Originals, again. 

Possible Scheduling Disaster: Dynasty needs just the right scheduling in order for it to pop. I also worry that Riverdale might land somewhere where it still won’t get the ratings it deserves. The other disaster that The CW should be wary of is if all of the lead-outs of the superhero shows do poorly like they did after last year’s crossover.

Possible Biggest Surprise: This is The CW, so the biggest surprise would be if they picked up a project that was originally in development for another network… beyond Black Lightning, I mean. Of the shows we know about, I’d be “bigly” surprised if Life Sentence does well. I like the producers and writers, I like Lucy Hale… but neither Chasing Life nor No Tomorrow lasted that long, so why would a combination of the two do well?

Safest Bet: Black Lightning will land on the schedule. I think Dynasty is a safe bet too.

Project I’m Rooting For: While I do think The CW has too many superhero shows, I’m rooting for Black Lightning. I’m also really curious how Dynasty will turn out, so I’ll root for that one, too. And of course, I’ll root for Riverdale to take over the world.
