Most Surprising Potential Renewal: At this point, I would be surprised if CSI gets renewed for another season. The final episodes were at or near series lows in the ratings, and I believe I read that Ted Danson would need a new contract. Then again, they could surprise us with a whole new cast, as they’ve replaced leads before. As things stand, though, I’d be very surprised if CSI returns this year, though I wouldn’t rule out a revival before 2020.
Show That Wasn’t Renewed But Should Have Been: Person of Interest isn’t officially renewed yet; does that count? I, too, wish The McCarthys had more of a chance. The accents grated on my nerves, but the episodes I saw were really funny (aside from the pilot, which was very “meh” to me).
Possible Scheduling Disaster: It’ll be so easy to put Supergirl in the wrong place, and if it is in the wrong place, it could mess up the entire flow of a night.
Possible Biggest Surprise: Maybe one of CBS’ new dramas will take hold and be part of the next generation of those “shows that goes on for ten years.” Scorpion, NCIS: NOLA, and to an extent Madam Secretary have pulled that off. Let’s see more.
Safest Bet: Limitless, no matter where it lands on the schedule. I think it’ll do well.
Biggest Need: CBS has often been the network you can rely on to keep a schedule week to week, but at the same time, football really jumbles things in the Fall. So I guess the “biggest need” would be to revive that feeling of consistency even when things are messed around with a little. Also, CBS needs the next generation of hits – the next line of Big Bang Theories and Scorpions. Supergirl could be a good start toward that goal.
