SHILO: Well, you never know what FOX is going to do, since they reverse course more often than the other networks combined, but going into the season, I expect to see The Following on Mondays come 2015. Seeing as how it was renewed despite collapsing ratings, the network is obviously still behind the show and I don’t think the show has dropped enough in time-shifted viewing for FOX to hit the panic button just yet. With the five extra episodes that Sleepy Hollow got for season two, The Following should be able to slide into its Mondays at 9:00 slot perfectly well, albeit a bit later than its first two seasons premiered, and have its first May finale as a result.
But should it? I don’t think that it fits anywhere else on FOX’s schedule. Sundays are for comedies and despite the network’s Tuesday struggles, I don’t see them airing The Following at 8:00 in hopes of repairing the night; Wednesdays midseason are for Idol; Thursdays are likely going to be some combination of Bones, new shows, and whatever form the Idol results show takes in 2015; and Fridays are too low profile a night for a show like this. Assuming Wayward Pines finds its way to the regular season schedule and Gotham sticks with its initial 16-episode order, I could see a fairly successful night of the Matt Dillon mystery at 8:00 and the Kevin Bacon psychological thriller at 9:00.
