FOX has officially renewed New Girl for a seventh and final season that is believed to be 8 episodes. The series has quietly become one of the longest-running live-action comedies in the history of FOX, becoming a syndication success for its studio while giving the network a comedy pulse in years that they couldn’t find a new success. Given the lateness of the renewal, there’s a strong chance that New Girl won’t be on the fall schedule, but it should be a reliable midseason performer that could take the place of something from the fall that doesn’t perform to FOX’s expectations.
From Elizabeth Merriweather (No Strings Attached), New Girl follows Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel), a middle school teacher who breaks up with her cheating boyfriend and moves into an apartment with three guys. The series chronicles Jess’s friendships with each of her roommates, including a budding romance with one of them.
In addition to Deschanel, New Girl stars Max Greenfield (The Big Short), Lamorne Morris (Barbershop: The Next Cut), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), and Hannah Simone (Old Boy).
The sixth season finale of New Girl aired this past April on FOX. The network will be unveiling its fall 2017 schedule tomorrow; you can check out what KSiteTV thought it could look like here.
