Deadline is reporting that Hulu is in the final stages of ordering an eight-episode limited series adaptation of controversial John Green novel Looking for Alaska.
Developed for television by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Dynasty, The Carrie Diaries), Looking for Alaska tells the story of Miles “Pudge” Halter, a teenage boy whose obsession with famous last words belies a life wrapped in the mundane. Upon starting Culver Creek Boarding School, he meets self-destructive, screwed up Alaska Young, a girl who shakes his world up for the better.
First published in 2005, the novel didn’t hit the New York Times Best Seller list until 2012, though it remained there many weeks with Green’s enhanced profile from The Fault in Our Stars. It went on to win the American Library Association’s Michael L. Printz Award and a spot in PBS’s Greatest American Read – 100 Most Beloved Books.
Looking for Alaska would join a scripted slate for Hulu that includes Harlots, The Handmaid’s Tale, Runaways, Future Man, and Casual, as well as upcoming series All Night and Castle Rock.
Presumably, Looking for Alaska would be set for a 2019 premiere upon completion of the order, with casting to begin shortly after things become official.
