Landry’s re-entry into the Templars was driven partially by guilt. While he feels it’s his purpose in life to serve the order, as well as God and the papacy, Landry wouldn’t have been as motivated to work his way back through the ranks if he didn’t feel guilt over what happened with Joan. He’s behind everything that happened to her and, by extension, the instability that’s manifested in French court; had he honored the pledge he took when he first became a Knight, Joan would still be alive, France wouldn’t be teetering, and everything would be okay. That guilt is worse than any type of punishment Talus could cook up and on tonight’s episode of Knightfall, it gets compounded even more.

That’s because the Templars just lost more men at the hands of the Luciferians. Quentin’s death alone was enough to weigh on Landry’s spirit, given that he feels responsible for the rest of the initiates being out in the woods in the first place, but the party Talus sent out getting slaughtered furthers Landry’s desire for revenge. While he might not be able to bring back Quentin or any other man the Templars have lost, he can ensure that none of his other brothers will suffer the same fate. This gives him a mission to channel his grief into, something to keep him going at a time when hopelessness might be creeping in. But would Talus even allow him to go after the Luciferians at this point?

Elsewhere on Knightfall, aided by the scrolls he stole, Louis continues his search to find Landry and Joan’s daughter.

Knightfall airs tonight at 10:00 on History.
