YouTube has announced that well-received sci-fi drama Impulse has been renewed for a second season, which will premiere in 2019.

“This dramatic thriller has all of the right elements — with unexplained events and complex characters who drew us into their mysterious world right from the start,” said YouTube head of original content Susanne Daniels. “We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Universal Cable Productions and the talented team at Hypnotic to create another intriguing season.”

Based on the novel of the same name by Steven Gould, with Jeffrey Lieber (NCIS: New Orleans) developing for television, Impulse follows 16-year-old Henrietta (Maddie Hasson) as she discovers she has the ability to teleport. The series explores Henrietta’s feelings about her newfound power, as well as her attempts to cope with the consequences of her first teleport.

In addition to Hasson, Impulse stars Missy Pyle (Galaxy Quest), Sarah Desjardins (Van Helsing), Enuka Okuma (Rookie Blue), and Craig Arnold (Heartland). The series is part of a scripted slate for the streamer that includes Karate Kid spinoff Cobra Kai and dance drama Step Up: High Water.
