One of the first things you’ll notice when you tune in to the two-night premiere of Almost Human (Sunday 11/17 and Monday 11/18 on FOX) is that it’s a view of the future that’s not too far away from the bounds of realism. While, yes, the cars and the technology may be different, there seems to be a rooting in technological evolution, and the whole affair really looks like something we’d see in the world 35 years from now.

Human.1In late September, we took a tour of the Almost Human sets in Vancouver, British Columbia, beginning with the police precinct that lead characters John Kennex (Karl Urban) and Dorian (Michael Ealy) report to. The precinct set is located in a very special place — less than a year ago, in that very same spot stood Walter’s laboratory from Fringe. This and the other sets we witnessed were the work of talented production designer Ian Thomas, whose other credits include Fringe, The 4400, and Dead Like Me.

Below are photos that we took of the precinct set, as we received our tour from Mr. Thomas. You’ll notice that a lot of the set is very open with a lot of glass windows. The glass windows would actually turn so that there would be no reflections from the glass on the camera.

Of course, as nice as these photos look, the real way to see how the set looks is to tune in to Almost Human on FOX. There is going to be all kinds of special effects wizardry beyond what you’d get from some photos that journalists took walking around. The show itself is a fantastic look at humanity through the eyes of two very different but similar people. We’ve included a trailer below the gallery so you can see for yourself.

Here are those pics:

"To Protect And Serve Man" may be a reference to a classic Twilight Zone episode where aliens come to Earth.
