Hulu has announced that sex industry drama Harlots has been renewed for a second season, which will likely premiere sometime in 2018.
From Moira Buffini (Jane Eyre) and Alison Newman (EastEnders), Harlots tells the story of Margaret Wells (Samantha Morton), a madam in 18th century London whose livelihood is threatened by rival madam Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville). Whereas Lydia’s brothel is more high-class and focused on providing the fantasy to go along with sex, Margaret’s establishment is a working class area built to ensure that her daughters will never have to be working girls like she had to be.
In addition to Morton and Manville, Harlots stars Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), Eloise Smyth (Fortitude), Danny Sapani (Penny Dreadful), and Kate Fleetwood (The Widower). A co-production with ITV, the series is part of a scripted slate for Hulu that includes The Handmaid’s Tale, which recently received major Emmy attention; cult drama The Path; and private eye dramedy Shut Eye.
Harlots wrapped its first season run this past May. You can catch up on the show here.
