Glee actor Grant Gustin has landed the coveted role of Dr. Barry Allen/The Flash in three episodes of Arrow and a hopeful spin-off series on The CW.

DHullshot1Gustin beat out other contenders, including Hellcats’ Matt Barr and Singularity’s James Mackay, for the role. Earlier this week, he was a top choice among fans to get to wear the red suit.

He will make his first appearance on Arrow in the eighth episode of the new season, which starts October 9. He will also appear in episodes 9 and 20, the final episode of which will be directed by David Nutter and serve as a potential pilot for a new series. DC Comics’ Geoff Johns is involved in the conceptualization of his episodes, which will be written with Arrow’s Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti.

The Flash was previously featured in his own weekly TV series on CBS in 1990. There, John Wesley Shipp played the role.

Here is how Warner Bros. Television describes the character that Grant will be playing:

BARRY ALLEN is a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past.  A comic book fan boy, Barry is obsessed with the Arrow unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity to solve the crime has brought him right into the dangerous world of the vigilante.

The first Flash episode of Arrow begins filming September 30.

  1. No offence but he comes across as too young, can anyone familiar with his tv performances can say whether he can fill in for Barry Allen because I always got the impression he would be a couple of years older than Oliver Queen in both physical and maturity and that pic doesn’t help in that regard.

  2. I remember when Katie.com had loads of spoilers almost every week when they were covering smallville. Now the spoilers are every weak. The kind you can get from the actual show’s website.
