After negotiations with Warner Bros., FOX has officially renewed DC Comics drama Gotham for a fourth season. The series might not be at the ratings highs of its heyday, but it’s become a steady, sturdy anchor for FOX, one of the few dramas they have that they can build around. This season, Gotham has been paired with fellow comic-based drama Lucifer, but seeing as the two were given an extensive hiatus to accommodate 24 and APB, the network might opt to use both shows differently next season, especially since it has no ownership stake in either.
Based on DC Comic characters found in the Batman universe and developed for television by Bruno Heller (The Mentalist), Gotham tells the story of police Detective James Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) rise through the ranks of the notorious city police department and how his journey intersects with the origin stories of the future superheros and villains he’ll be doing battle with in the future.
In addition to McKenzie, Gotham stars the likes of Donal Logue (Terriers), David Mazouz (Touch), Robin Lord Taylor (Accepted), Sean Pertwee (Elementary), and Camren Bicondova (Battlefield America).
Gotham airs Mondays at 8:00 on FOX. The network will reveal its plans for 2017 on Monday, May 15th.
