Last week on The CW’s Gotham Knights, it finally happened: The son of Batman (Turner Hayes, played by Oscar Morgan) got together with the daughter of The Joker, Duela Doe, as played by Olivia Rose Keegan. Speaking with Olivia Rose Keegan in anticipation of tonight’s episode, she tells us “that was just the beginning.”

It finally happened, and now we get to see the actual aftermath of it,” she teases when speaking with KSiteTV about the new episode that airs tonight (June 6) on The CW. “That’ll continue from 11 and onwards. It gets extremely complicated. I certainly didn’t expect what was happening when I read the scripts, and I hope I’m pretty sure everyone watching it will feel that way, too,” she says.

Both Turner and Duela have been seen in certain ways in the episodes that have aired thus far, and after their hookup, one can expect some attitudes to change.

“I think Turner and Duela’s friendship and relationship has evolved so much from the beginning,” Olivia says. “At the very beginning, and then around Episode 5, they were sort of sniffing each other out, like these primal animals who knew they were supposed to hate each other, and then they sort of hated themselves for secretly admiring certain qualities about each other and learning if they could trust each other,” she explains. That, of course, changed with Episode 8 and the big party hosted by the Court of Owls.

“I don’t think Duela even realized how much she cared about him and how much she had let him in, until there was a risk of losing him,” she says. Seeing Turner in dire conditions in Episode 10 raised the stakes even more. Though, of course, the coupling might not be welcomed by some of the other Knights. “We’re all forced to be together, whether we like it or not, so there’s no way that it’s not going to complicate things and be really annoying for everyone else when it gets messy,” she continues.

The June 6 episode of Gotham Knights titled “Daddy Issues” also features a major figure in Duela’s life that we haven’t met yet: Her mother Jane Doe, as played by Lindy Booth. “It’s interesting because Duela is such a lone ranger, with the one singular exception being her mother, and it’s a fascinating relationship to me because it seems to sort of go against everything that Duela stands for,” Olivia says. “Everything about her screams ‘I can’t afford to care about anyone but myself,’ but of course, there’s a a deep yearning for that parent child bond that still lives in her.”

Olivia describes Lindy Booth as “amazing” and in the episode, we will see how Duela and her mother have managed to sustain a close relationship for so many years, even with Jane being locked up in Arkham Asylum. “Jane taught Duela everything she knows about survival and theory and outsmarting the system,” Olivia explains. “So you can definitely see how and why she came to be the woman she is.”

Gotham Knights “Daddy Issues” airs tonight on The CW, and be sure to come back soon for more from Olivia Rose Keegan about the show!
