The past year of Abby’s life has been all about change. The divorce with Jake was finalized; she found herself building an online brand before writing a romance book and shunning the editorial world altogether; Lily lost her virginity and got her license. It was a lot to deal with, these constant shifts of her status quo that never let her get her bearings, but they were nothing compared to losing her mother shortly after her father had a stroke. As strained as their relationship could be at times, and as much as she feels Max was the favored child, Abby’s parents were a source of stability in her life that outlasted every storm she was forced to weather, so having to grieve her mother while taking care of her father and his advancing dementia was an especially cruel twist of fate.

On the next episode of Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Abby sets about helping George adjust to his new life. She might not have wanted everything to work out this way, and taking care of her elderly father might be difficult given the shape her life currently is, but this gives Max the chance to work through a complicated divorce while in a sense paying back her father for all the good he’s given her in life. However, the transition from a happily married, self-sufficient life to one where he’s a widower dependent on his daughter is a lot for George to deal with, particularly considering the cognitive deficits he’s got to overcome thanks to the strokes. He’s not ready to face his own mortality and Abby’s attempts at steering him make him feel like an invalid despite the fact that they come from a place of love and concern. Though she initially accepted her father into her home as a gesture of love and a chance to help him deal with this new life, how long will Abby be able to keep this up on her own?

Elsewhere on Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Phoebe is forced to face her new life more quickly than she anticipated, while Delia begins working as Paul’s campaign manager, Abby makes a major decision about Lady Parts after coming back home to find the site nothing like it was when she left, and an estate sale brings an awkward love triangle face-to-face-to-face for the first time.

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce airs Thursdays at 10:00 on Bravo.

Could Abby’s professional relationship with Barbara be in trouble? How will Phoebe handle having to deal with a seven-day escrow? Will Jo, Delia, and Albert be able to resolve the issues between them once and for all?
