The next generation of T.G.I.F. begins… next year on the Disney Channel.

TV Line this morning posting the news that has been pretty much a given — the Disney Channel has officially picked up Girl Meets World, the new sequel series to ABC TV classic Boy Meets World. Original series stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel are back as Cory and Topanga, and this time, they have a daughter, Riley. Here’s how they describe it:

Set in New York City, the new comedy series will tell the wonderfully funny, heartfelt stories that Boy Meets World is renowned for — only this time from a tween girl’s perspective — as the curious and bright 7th grader Riley and her quick-witted friend Maya (played by Sabrina Carpenter) embark on an unforgettable middle school experience.  But their plans for a carefree year will be adjusted slightly under the watchful eyes of Riley’s dad who’s also a faculty member — and their new History teacher — and Riley’s mom who owns a trendy afterschool hangout that specializes in pudding.

Pudding? Mmkay.

Of course, this news isn’t perfect… we’re getting Girl Meets World, but the current plan is for it to not premiere until 2014. Boo! Guess we’ll have our classic DVD sets to watch in the meantime, right?

It will be interesting to see how much of the audience from this series will be kids, and how much of the audience will be their parents who grew up with the original show. Time will tell..

Share.
