The popular host of American Bandstand, The $25,000 Pyramid, and ABC’s annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve suffered a stroke in 2004. Before that time, Clark seemed immortal. People referred to him as “America’s Oldest Teenager.” The TMZ report says that Clark had been in St. John’s hospital in L.A. after undergoing an outpatient procedure last night.
Ryan Seacrest, whose career has followed a similar trajectory to Clark’s, took over Rockin’ Eve hosting duties in 2006. In recent years, Dick Clark still appeared and did the final countdown. December 31, 2012 is not going to be the same without him.
