Some of the best news for fans: Chuck will be back for a 13-episode order for its fifth season, and the network has also renewed Parenthood.
Bad news, but possibly good to some, is that NBC has passed on their updated Wonder Woman. Hopefully this doesn’t mean TV executives will give up on the character on TV entirely. There were a lot of mixed reviews about the project, which would have starred Adrianne Palicki. Guess we had made a bad choice when giving Wonder Woman its own individual site…. They’ve also passed on Ronald D. Moore’s 17th Precinct.
NBC has, however, picked up several projects that will hopefully be interesting.
Awake (once known as REM) is one of the most interesting. It comes from Lone Star creator Kyle Killen, and this project also has a lead character in a double life – this series is about a man who lives in two different realities. Sounds complex, but very intriguing. Jason Isaacs, Cherry Jones, and Wilmer Valderrama star.
The Playboy Club is a series set in 1960’s Chicago, and sounds a bit like Mad Men with Playboy bunnies. Eddie Cibrian, Amber Heard and Jenna Dewan star.
Grimm is a cop drama in a fantasy world where characters and creatures from Grimm’s Fairy Tales exist. I’d be skeptical but David Greenwalt (Profit, Angel) is involved which sounds like a good sign. David Giuntoli, Bitsie Tulloch and Kate Burton star.
Smash is billed as “Glee for adults,” and has Debra Messing in it. Minus the Messing part, didn’t we get that a few years back with Viva Laughlin?
Prime Suspect is a remake of the British series. This version stars Maria Bello.
Sitcom pickups include Whitney from Whitney Cummings and Up All Night with Rhonda Shear Christina Applegate and Will Arnett.
News of what’s to come from other networks – as well as NBC’s actual schedule – should be coming soon.
