ABC has announced that legal drama For Life has been renewed for a second season.
“It has been a profound honor working with Isaac Wright Jr. and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson to create a show that, through the prism of Isaac’s experience in our broken criminal justice system, has been able to highlight the racial inequality that plagues this country,” creator and showrunner Hank Steinberg said. “The show’s renewal will allow us to continue to do that and I am extremely grateful to Sony Pictures Television and ABC for all of their support.”
During its 13-episode first season, which concluded May 12th, the series averaged 2.3 million L+SD viewers and a 0.56 18-49 demo. While that makes it the second lowest-rated ABC drama to get a renewal for 2020-21, with Stumptown‘s 0.49 averaging taking the honor as the network’s cellar dweller, For Life is said to have a lot of internal support and managed to post solid lead-in retention for a 10:00 drama. It’s also one of only three 2019-20 freshmen ABC is bringing back for next season, joining Stumptown and Black-ish spinoff Mixed-ish.
