According to The Hollywood Reporter, Freeform has opted to cancel Bella Thorne vehicle Famous in Love after two seasons, with its series finale coming last month.

Interestingly, Freeform is said to have wanted a third season of the show, which finished its second season down by 26% in the 18-49 demo accounting for an inflated series premiere. However, per the Hollywood Reporter report, Freeform’s request for more money from streaming partner Hulu, which would help pay for production, was denied, while Thorne clashed with showrunner I. Marlene King (Pretty Little Liars) on a number of occasions. This combination of lack of funding, production headaches, and ratings not strong enough to overcome its difficulties thereby pushed Freeform to cancel.

Based on the novel of the same name from Rebecca Serle, with King having developed the property to series, Famous in Love followed aspiring actress Paige Townsen (Thorne) as she gets her big break after auditioning for a Hollywood blockbuster. The series chronicled the culture shock Paige encountered thanks to her newfound fame and the ways that her vision of a life on screen differed from the realities she encountered.

With the cancellation of Famous in Love, coming not long after the cancellations of Shadowhunters and Beyond, Freeform’s drama slate now includes The Bold Type, Siren, and Cloak and Dagger, with spinoffs of Pretty Little Liars and The Fosters coming soon.
