Freeform has announced that military witch drama Motherland: Fort Salem and acclaimed family comedy Everything’s Gonna Be Okay have been renewed for second seasons.
“We have a strong slate ahead, and with our young adult audience coming of age in a time that will forever impact their lives, we owe it to them to tell bold, authentic stories that reflect who they are and where they are going,” said Lauren Corrao, Freeform’s EVP, Original Programming and Development.
From Eliot Laurence (Claws), Motherland: Fort Salemis set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the U.S.government to fight for their country.The series follows three young women from basic training into their first deployment and shows how they utilize their supernatural tactics, powers, and weapons in a wartime scenario.
The series stars Taylor Hickson (Aftermath), Jessica Sutton (The Kissing Booth), Demetria McKinney (Superstition), and Amalia Holm (The Girl in the Spider’s Web).
From Josh Thomas (Please Like Me),Everything’s Gonna Be Okayfollows neurotic Nicholas (Thomas), a 25-year-old living at home with his single father and two sisters.When his father becomes terminally ill, Nicholas realizes that he’s the one who’s going to have to hold everything together.
In addition to Thomas,Everything’s Gonna Be Okaystars Adam Faison (Here and Now), Kayla Cromer (Blood Orange), and Maeve Press (Evil Lives Here).
The two series are part of a scripted slate for Freeform that includes Grown-ish, Good Trouble, Siren, The Bold Type, and upcoming drama Cruel Summer. Grown-ish, Good Trouble, and Cruel Summer have been delayed to 2021 due to coronavirus, while the shortened second half of The Bold Type season four will return next month.
