Deadline is reporting that Elementary season six has been expanded from its original 13 episodes to 21, matching the back eight that Superior Donuts and Man with a Plan received. However, it’s more unusual for a veteran like Elementary to receive such an extension than it was for the two sophomores, the former of which debuted last midseason and received the typical 13-episode second season.
Considering the length of Elementary‘s upcoming sixth season, it should be premiering sooner rather than later, possibly on Sundays replacing outgoing Wisdom of the Crowd. That show didn’t receive an extension on its initial 13-episode order, a de facto cancellation for fall freshmen, and where Elementary has been surviving solely based on its off-network syndication and streaming deals, returning to its Sunday at 10:00 slot wouldn’t be the biggest surprise. Should CBS want to use either Instinct or Code Black on Sundays come midseason, there’s a chance we could see Elementary post up on Saturdays and give the night its first original, non-burn off, non-international acquisition scripted content in quite some time.
