Not content with just replacing talent in front of the camera, there’ll now be a change behind the scenes at Dynasty, as series writer/executive producer Josh Reims is set to step in as showrunner for the soap’s upcoming third season. Series co-creator/showrunner Sallie Patrick announced her departure via Instagram.
The news comes after a creatively uneven second season that misused the buzz the show had built up by the end of season one. Rather than discussing the latest crazy plot twist or jaw-dropping ensemble, the talk around Dynasty for the last year has been more about its behind the scenes drama, as Nathalie Kelley was fired between seasons one and two, James Mackay dropped down to recurring, and Nicollette Sheridan abruptly left to care for her ill mother. The series essentially recast Kelley with Ana Brenda Contreras and Sheridan with Elizabeth Gillies, while Mackay was shelved earlier this season and could return in season three.
For his part, Reims has previously been a showrunner on the likes of Mistresses and Dirty Sexy Money. His television credits also include Jane the Virgin, Brothers & Sisters, and Everwood.
Season three of Dynasty will air Fridays at 9:00 this fall on The CW. You can check out the network’s full fall schedule here, as well as what KSiteTV thought about the network’s new schedule here.
