At the network’s TCA presentation today, CW president Mark Pedowitz revealed that telenovela actress Ana Brenda Contreras will be joining the second season of Dynasty as the real Cristal Flores.
The news comes about six weeks after series star Nathalie Kelley gave an interview with E! that revealed she wouldn’t be coming back for season two. The recasting not only serves as a soapy plot twist, given that this was the second time that OG Cristal faked her identity, it confirms that OG Cristal will succumb to the injuries suffered in the season finale fire.
It remains unclear when Contreras’s version of Cristal will be introduced during season two or how the show will reveal that the original Cristal wasn’t who she claimed to be.
This will mark the English television debut for Contreras, who has built a career doing Spanish fare including Por amar sin ley, The One Who Couldn’t Love, and Teresa.
The second season of Dynasty is set to premiere Friday, October 12th at 8:00 on The CW.
