With the recent success of the MacGyver reboot it’s not completely surprising that studios and networks are going to be mining more old IP: Now, it looks as though 1980s soap classic Dynasty could be coming back, this time on The CW.

dynasty-cast-photoDeadline is reporting that Fake Empire’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the creators of the Gossip Girl TV series, are teaming with Revenge’s Sallie Patrick and original show creators Richard & Esther Shapiro for an updated, more diverse version of the show for The CW, which sees Krystle (the character originally played by Linda Evans) re-imagined as a Hispanic woman named Cristal who marries into this rich and powerful family, immediately causing waves with Blake Carrington’s daughter, Fallon. The rivalry between the Carringtons and the Colbys will also be a part of this new series; although interestingly, nothing is said about the original show’s best aspect – Alexis, who was played by the possibly irreplaceable Joan Collins.

The original Dynasty ran from 1981 to 1989 and was the #1 show on TV for a time. Beyond wondering about Alexis, other very important questions still remain: Will a younger generation even care about a new version, or is their lack of knowledge about the first series a good thing? Would success lead into modern-day remakes of Dallas or Knots Landing? (Please?) And most important of all: Will the new show adapt the original, iconic theme song and opening titles in an era that rarely gives us those things anywhere but on Netflix?

We shall see. While we wait for answers, enjoy the original series’ opening credits:
