The short version of this review can be said in two sentences, really.
The first is “Young Justice on DVD, YEAH!”
The second is “Only four episodes?”
While priced reasonably, Young Justice: Season One, Volume Two, recently released by Warner Home Video, contains only four episodes of the show’s first season – those would be “Schooled,” “Infiltrator,” “Denial,” and “Downtime.” This is a show I (and I’m sure many others, young and old) would enjoy having to watch again and again, but I can’t help but think and hope that a full-season set, complete with extras, is coming later.
If you haven’t seen Young Justice, basically, it’s a Teen Titans like mix of DC Comics’ younger heroes, at least more like they were before the “New 52.” There’s Superboy (Conner Kent), Robin (Dick Grayson), the archer Artemis, Aqualad, Miss Martian (where is she on the DVD cover?), and Kid Flash (Wally West). The animation is great and the writing is not only reverent to DC Comics; it also doesn’t talk down to the viewers.
There are some great episodes on this set, with spotlights on other characters.
It’s a great stocking stuffer if you’re not looking to spend enough, and great if you just can’t wait. But ultimately, I’d rather have a complete season set, hopefully with extras.
If you want it now, though, it’s available for under $12 on Amazon.com. (All orders support this site!)
