A few months ago, The Warner Archive put out Rockin’ With Judy Jetson – a late-80’s Jetsons animated movie that was… well… not very good. I applauded that an animation rarity like that would be released to DVD-on-demand, but content-wise it just wasn’t for me.
Upon seeing that, I was a little concerned about what I might think of The Jetsons – Season 2, Part 2, which was also recently released by the Warner Archive. I was hopeful – after all, a majority of the episodes I had seen as a kid were probably the 80’s installments and I didn’t realize it. Thankfully, that was exactly the case.
Compared to Rockin’, this collection of the second half of The Jetsons Season 2 is pure Jetsons. There’s a lot more technology and a lot more Mr. Spacely-vs.-Cogswell Cogs action than I remember, but these stories still have a whole lot of heart. This 20-episode collection on 3 discs pushed my nostalgia buttons, and would probably push the buttons of those older than me as well. Best of all, if any of us have any kids they might like it too.
Animation-wise, my favorite Jetsons may still be the 1990 movie, which was only a few years after this… it looked great, though the Tiffany-as-Judy Jetson thing still bothers me to this day. Fortunately, Judy is here sounding as she always should, by the talented Janet Waldo.
The episodes on the discs look great… definitely better than anything I saw on broadcast TV back in the 80’s when these aired. Sound quality seems good, and like I said, the episodes are fun.
If sets like these don’t make it to stores, I am glad the Warner Archive doesn’t just give up on them. I’d hate as a collector of any series to miss out on something… but thanks to the Archive, the series can continue, and [hopefully] we’ll get the very short third season sooner rather than later.
You can get your copy of Season 2, Volume 2 exclusively at the Warner Archive.
