ABC Studios recently released the Season 2 box set containing all 22 episodes of the second season of Revenge, and it’s surely recommended if you’d like to catch up before the Season 3 premiere on September 29.
Here’s how they describe the set:
Emily Thorne’s enemies may be the same, but her mission now takes on a suspenseful twist. In the second season of ABC’s smash hit series, new faces from the past will complicate the already tangled web of deceit and divert Emily from her path to vengeance.
Relive every biting and brilliant episode of Season Two, complete with all 22 action-filled episodes and never-before-seen bonus features that will lure fans even deeper into the drama. Feel the power of television’s most seductive series, when “Revenge: The Complete Second Season” arrives on DVD.
Here’s the review:
The Episodes: Obviously, before you get to Revenge Season 2, you should check out the first season set, which set up the whole story. I’ll admit… I still am working on Season 1 so this review can’t comment completely on the quality of the episodes here, since I don’t really want to spoil myself at this point. General reviews for the second season, thus far, have been less favorable than the first; however, it sounds as though there are points where the ship began to steer properly again. The third season will have a new creative direction, but either way, you’ll want to see these episodes to be caught up. All 22 episodes of Season 2 are included, and like any show, it is really fun to marathon through.
Picture Quality: I admit, I got spoiled by the Once Upon A Time Season 2 Blu-ray… it’s so crisp, and so beautiful, that I don’t look at DVD’s the same way anymore. Unfortunately, the Revenge Season 2 release is DVD only at this point. It’s a shame because it’s a pretty show, with pretty locations… maybe we’ll get a Blu-ray series set when all is said and done? Even so, I’m glad to have all of the season in one place. It’s just that I feel that the good look of the show would look more beautiful with an upgraded picture. The Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound sounds good.
Extras: ABC DVD releases don’t skimp on extras, and while this doesn’t have as many as the previously mentioned Once set, there are a LOT of deleted scenes, for starters. There’s also a 15-minute featurette on the show’s music which also features appearances from the cast, and a look at Ashley Davenport’s style. The DVD set also includes audio commentaries, which I appreciate, and best of all… bloopers! Lots of fun to see the cast of this usually serious show going off-script.
Is It Worth It? Revenge is definitely a show worth having in your TV library. While I still would have wished for Blu-ray for this, it’s still entertaining to see the ups and downs of this modern day drama. This is a show that conceivably shouldn’t have worked or been done on a very limited run, yet it has worked, and it’s kept viewers hooked.
