The Complete Second Season of Hart of Dixie recently came out on DVD, and unfortunately, that’s all you get, despite a very well put together package.
On the bright side, Hart of Dixie is a fun show with a likable cast and good writing, a spiritual successor to The WB’s Gilmore Girls on The CW. Unfortunately, somehow this quirky comedy, despite being in its third season, seems to have only achieved a small but very loyal audience. This is where having a DVD set definitely would come in handy.
Rachel Bilson plays Dr. Zoe Hart, the big-city girl now in this small town world. Among the cast standouts is Wilson Bethel as Wade, who is the kind of scrappy character that both women and men can enjoy. The town of BlueBell, too, is a character in this tapestry. There are still some things that still don’t work 100% (Lemon’s accent will always annoy), but it’s a fun show, worth marathoning if you ever get a chance.
22 episodes are split over 5 discs, so you’re looking at many hours of entertainment. But, unfortunately, something major is missing: This DVD has no extras! This aspect is a bit disappointing, especially as the show films at the Warner Brothers Burbank studio, and it probably won’t be hard to get some behind the scenes extras. Heck, even licensing some of Wilson Bethel’s CW comedy videos as extras might have been fun.
Even so, we should be thankful HoD even got that — fans of recent CW shows like The Secret Circle didn’t even get a DVD box set. And, like I said, the 22 episodes are fun, so, it’s probably a good one to have in your library, preparing the viewer for the new episodes currently airing Mondays on The CW.
