A few months ago, I reviewed the Season 1, Part 2 set for Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The earlier set of the new-ish cartoon series – which is derived greatly from the Dick Sprang era of the Silver Age – gave me a mixed reaction, with some episodes being brilliant and others being simply okay, if not aimed at another age group.

The earlier set of the new-ish cartoon series – which is derived greatly from the Dick Sprang era of the Silver Age – gave me a mixed reaction, with some episodes being brilliant and others being simply okay, if not aimed at another age group.
The latest 2-disc collection, which contains 12 adventures from Season Two, gave me a similar mixed vibe. The first episodes on this set, sadly came off more as toy commercials than actual stories. Mongul gets a car race together? Really? (And why not Darkseid?) It’s the exact sort of thing that the recent Bat-Mite episode of this same series kind of mocked. Maybe kids love it. I didn’t.
But that shouldn’t dissuade anyone. There are some fantastic stories on this set… it’s just not all batting 1000. A Captain Marvel story with Black Adam is fantastic. The Metal Men episode is also a lot better than a Metal Men story has a right to have. And, again, this is a fun way for kids to “meet” new heroes. The episode “Sidekicks Assemble” is the perfect prototype to Young Justice. And there’s an episode titled “Chill Of The Night” which features some very familiar voices – those stories are right up my alley.
The DVD hit stores on Tuesday, so go to your favorite DVD retailer to check it out, or order it from Amazon.com and support this site!
