In an alternate Fringe type world where The WB and UPN hadn’t merged into The CW, a series called Cult starring White Collar’s Matthew Bomer might have stood next to Aquaman on The WB’s Fall 2006 hits.

Sadly, the reality ended up that after the merge, neither project hit the airwaves, but now, The CW is giving the concept another go.

Joe Adalian over at Vulture has revealed that The CW has officially ordered their first pilot for Fall 2012, and it is Cult, from Farscape creator Rockne S. O’Bannon. Extremely busy CW producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl) are also brought on to be executive producers through Warner Bros. TV and Fake Empire.

The Vulture report says that Cult begins following “a rash of disappearances and a likely murder” and the main character – a young female production assistant on a popular television series called Cult – teams up with a “journalist blogger” as they investigate rabid fans of the series who might be copying crimes seen on the show.
