Constantine Casts Papa Midnite

Major Hellblazer character Papa Midnite is coming to NBC’s Constantine TV series.

USA Today’s Brian Truitt reports that Michael James Shaw has been cast as Papa Midnite in what will be a recurring role on the series.

Interestingly, Papa Midnite was in the original Constantine pilot script; however, it appears the role in the pilot, at least, was cut for time, most likely before shooting.

Papa Midnite made his first appearance in the very first issue of John Constantine: Hellblazer from 1988, published by DC Comics. He may be the most well-known of John Constantine’s enemies. Djimon Hounsou played the role in the Keanu Reeves Constantine film.

Constantine premieres Friday, October 24.
