A few years after a CBS reboot went nowhere, multiple outlets including THR are reporting that The CW is now developing its own update of Charmed.
Executive Producers on the project include Jane the Virgin’s Jenny Snyder Urman and Brad Silberling; Silberling is also directing the pilot if The CW should pick one up beyond the reported script order. The script and the story for the Charmed reboot are coming from Jane the Virgin writers Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin.
Original cast members Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, and Shannen Doherty are not expected to be a part of the new show; Combs did, however, address the news on Twitter, tweeting simply “We wish them well.”
The CW’s last take on a witch-based show, The Secret Circle, didn’t fare too well and lasted for only a season. However, a marquee title like Charmed may be exactly what the network needs to break through. We shall see what happens.
