Most Surprising (Possible) Renewal: At this point since it was pulled from the schedule, Blindspot would shock me. But it’s happened before.
Show That Likely Won’t Be Renewed But Should Be: Abby’s. The live numbers aren’t there but it seems like a cute show that could grow. And I like the cast.
Possible Scheduling Disaster: I don’t think there’s anything “possible” about NBC Thursdays not working like they used to, but I’m not sure what it would take to bring the “Must See” era back.
Possible Biggest Surprise: NBC picking up Brooklyn Nine-Nine was definitely a big surprise. Here’s one: That Nine-Nine does even BETTER next season. That might not be a surprise, now that I think of it, but I’m glad the show is where it always should have been.
Safest Bet: The Voice will still be one of the strongest parts of the schedule, even if it declines over time.
Project I’m Rooting For: Is it terrible that there is nothing I’m particularly wowed about in NBC development this year? Law & Order: Hate Crimes, when/if it happens, could be interesting.
The One That Will [Probably] Get Away: Emergence. ABC Studios owns it, and it sounds pretty much like a dozen other ABC Studios shows, yet… I could see it maybe even landing at ABC.
What NBC Needs: Sadly unless anything changes (and I’m not sure it should, at this point at least), NBC is kind of locked in that they have their football/Voice/shows that make you cry/Chicago/averagely rated comedies/burnoff lineup. That’s not going to last forever. I’d love to see some diversity in their programming and an attempt to create more non-franchise hits. It doesn’t need to be a tear-jerker, but it needs to have wide appeal.
Also, going against the franchise thing I just said, they should bring back ER already, even if Warner Bros. owns it.
