The CW 2012-2013 schedule isn’t expected until Thursday morning, but the often reliable site Deadline has reported that they’re hearing that the Thursday at 9PM timeslot following The Vampire Diaries may be going to Beauty and the Beast.

The show is an update of the CBS series that starred Linda Hamilton, with Kristin Kreuk playing Catherine, the role that Hamilton played in the original.

Deadline’s report suggests that Beauty is a good companion for The Vampire Diaries with their similar female skew. Injecting some personal feeling and spin, is more of the same necessarily a good thing? As a series, TVD focuses on a raven-haired beauty who has romance with a man who has a monster inside… isn’t this basically the same concept? Also, Thursdays at 9 will have increased competition for the female demo with both Glee and Grey’s Anatomy announced for that slot on other networks.

Who knows; maybe it will be a great idea and a fantastic pairing. If it were up to us, though, something more like Cult would fit there, with its TVD/Matt Davis connection and decidedly different vibe. Arrow might also be a good match, but, as we posted in our dream CW schedule, it might be a decent match-up with something like Hart Of Dixie.
