ABC has brought acclaimed limited series American Crime to an end, cancelling the award-winning drama after three seasons. There had been rumors circulating that ABC was considering giving the show, one of the few series that give broadcast television representation at the Emmys, a six-episode fourth season, but with ratings falling off a cliff this season and ABC snagging American Idol, there was simply nowhere for the show to exist.
From John Ridley (12 Years a Slave), American Crime was an anthology that focused on the crime that ran rampant through three different communities. Seasons one and two were primarily concerned with individual crimes (the murder of a Marine in California, the sexual assault of a Midwestern teenager), while the most recent season was a hodgepodge of crimes in North Carolina that fell under the human trafficking/sexual slavery umbrella.
American Crime starred Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Regina King (The Leftovers), Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People), Lili Taylor (The Conjuring), and Benito Martinez (Million Dollar Baby), among others.
The series finale of American Crime aired last month on ABC. The network will be revealing its plans for 2017-18 on Tuesday, May 16th; you can check out what KSiteTV thought ABC could do next season here.
