After ordering three new dramas the past few days, NBC has gotten started picking up new comedies, as I Feel Bad and Abby’s have been given series orders.
Based on the Orli Auslander book I Feel Bad: All Day. Every Day. About Everything. and developed for television by Aseem Batra (The Cleveland Show), I Feel Bad tells the story of Emet (Sarayu Blue), an unfiltered mother trying to have it all.
In addition to Blue, I Feel Bad stars Paul Adelstein (Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce), James Buckley (The Inbetweeners Movie), Johnny Pemberton (In the Loop), and Zach Cherry (Crashing).
From Josh Malmuth (New Girl), Abby’s takes place at an unlicensed bar in San Diego and follows the daily interactions between its tight-knit group of regulars.
The series stars Natalie Morales (Trophy Wife), Jessica Chaffin (The Heat), Kimia Behpoornia (Station 19), Leonard Ouzts (Master of None), Neil Flynn (The Middle), and Nelson Franklin (Veep).
They join a comedy slate for NBC that includes Superstore, The Good Place, and Will & Grace, all three already renewed for 2018-2019. The network still has Champions, AP Bio, and Great News on the bubble, with Trial & Error having morphed into a summer show.
