Fall TV Preview: October 2017 Premiere Dates

By the time you read this, you’ll have survived Premiere Week, one of September’s greatest traditions for television fans. Every year, there’s a week where the Big Four broadcast networks dump a majority of their season and series premieres, delighting and overwhelming anyone who pays attention to television. On the one hand, it made up for a slower first half of the month, which had a trickle of premieres amid a sea of summer finales, and it’s always nice to have your shows return; on the other, we’re already in a time of Too Much TV, so Premiere Week can feel less like TV Christmas and more like this scene from Matilda.

However, October is the time when the TV season first begins getting its bearings. The vast majority of broadcast premieres still happen in September, so once you separate the wheat from the chaff, welcoming back the veteran shows you like while figuring out which newbies to sample and when to sample them, you can look for October to have some straggler broadcast premieres and focus primarily on cable. To be certain, October is far from a dead month on the television calendar, but it has a different purpose than September and can sometimes serve as the space necessary to tweak your television schedule as we go barreling toward midseason.

All this being said, it can be impossible trying to keep track of the depth and breadth that is fall TV, so KSiteTV is doing you a solid and compiling premiere dates. This is limited to scripted and unscripted originals on broadcast and cable, so no Netflix/Hulu/Amazon content will be found here, nor will you see any TV movies or one-off specials. It’s meant as something of a cheat sheet so that you can see what exactly is premiering when and whether there’s something coming out that you might not have heard about but might appeal to you.

Among the highlights of September TV are the returns of Bob’s Burgers, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, and Jane the Virgin, as well as the series premieres of Ten Days in the Valley, White Famous, and Ghost Wars.
