Deadline is reporting that Vikings alum Katheryn Winnick has joined ABC straight-to-series PI drama The Big Sky.
Based on the C.J. Box novel The Highway, with David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) developing for television, The Big Sky follows private investigator Cassie Dewell as she teams up with ex-cop Jenny Hoyt to look into the disappearance of two sisters, said to be kidnapped by a trucker on a remote Montana highway. Once the pair discover that other women have been abducted, as well, they find themselves in a race against time to stop the killer.
Winnick is set as Jenny Hoyt. Ryan Phillippe was recently cast as Jenny’s well-meaning ex Cody, a private investigator who gets called in to help with the case.
The Big Sky was the first ABC drama to get a series order for 2020-21. The network has several pilots in contention, including gothic soap The Brides, about the complicated relationship between Dracula’s wives; thirtysomething sequel thirtysomething(else); family restaurant saga Harlem’s Kitchen; plane crash tale Wreckage; and legal drama Rebel, which stars Katey Sagal as an Erin Brockovitch-like figure.
In addition to her role on the History drama, Winnick’s television credits include Wu Assassins, Bones, and The Gates.
