According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC straight-to-series PI drama The Big Sky has landed Shooter alum Ryan Phillippe.
Based on the C.J. Box novel The Highway, with David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) developing for television, The Big Sky follows private investigator Cassie Dewell as she teams up with ex-cop Jenny Hoyt to look into the disappearance of two sisters, said to be kidnapped by a trucker on a remote Montana highway. Once the pair discover that other women have been abducted, as well, they find themselves in a race against time to stop the killer.
Phillippe will portray Jenny’s well-meaning private investigator ex Cody Hoyt, an ex-cop called into the search for his son’s missing girlfriend.
The Big Sky was the first ABC drama to get a series order for 2020-21. The network has several pilots in contention, including gothic soap The Brides, about the complicated relationship between Dracula’s wives; thirtysomething sequel thirtysomething(else); family restaurant saga Harlem’s Kitchen; plane crash tale Wreckage; and legal drama Rebel, which stars Katey Sagal as an Erin Brockovitch-like figure.
In addition to his role on the USA drama, Phillippe’s television credits include Secrets and Lies, Will & Grace, and Damages.
