Deadline is reporting that ABC romantic drama pilot The Baker and the Beauty has added Carlos Gomez (Law & Order True Crime – The Menendez Murders), Being Mary Jane‘s Lisa Vidal, Scandal alum Dan Bucatinsky, and newcomer Belissa Escobedo.
Based on the Israeli series of the same name, with Dean Georgaris (The Brave) developing for American television, The Baker and the Beauty follows the love story between successful model and daughter of a Miami real estate magnate Noa Hollander and Daniel, a simple guy who lives with his parents and runs the family bakery. A chance encounter between the two leads to an unexpected spark that has reverberations through each of their lives.
Gomez and Vidal are set as Daniel’s parents Santiago and Mari, respectively, while Bucatinsky is Noa’s manager Lewis and Escobedo will play Daniel’s youngest sister Natalie.
In addition to his role in the NBC limited series, Gomez’s television credits include Madam Secretary, The Glades, and Gang Related; Vidal has appeared on Rosewood, The Event, and The Division; and Bucatinsky has been seen on Web Therapy, The Comeback, and 24: Legacy.
The Baker and the Beauty joins a drama pilot slate for ABC that includes Bermuda Triangle-set Triangle; family drama Heart of Life, based on the John Mayer song; P.I. drama Stumptown, starring Cobie Smulders; and romantic thriller The Hypnotist’s Love Story, among others.
