Deadline is reporting that NBC comedy pilot Night School has added Cougar Town‘s Ian Gomez, James Earl (Scream Queens), You’re the Worst alum Collette Wolfe, and Barry‘s Joe Massingill.
Based on the 2018 Tiffany Haddish movie that earned $103 million at the box office, with Christopher Moynihan (Marlon) developing for television, Night School centers on the wide range of adults at a night school GED prep class who unexpectedly bond over their shared experience.Soon enough, they find themselves helping each other inside and outside the classroom.
Gomez is set as Luis Flores, a somewhat cynical man with a major chip on his shoulder. The role was played in the movie by Al Madrigal.
Earl will play cool, confident Jaylen Watkins, who reads a lot on the internet. The role was played in the movie by Romany Malco.
Wolfe will portray sweet, timid mother of three Theresa Perkins. The role was played in the movie by Mary Lynn Rajskub.
Massingill will be seen as kindhearted and perpetually positive Mackenzie “Mack” Todd. The role was played in the movie by Rob Riggle.
Night School is one of six comedy pilots NBC has in development for 2020-21. It joins Crazy For You, about an awkward woman who reenters the dating world after years in a committed relationship; American Auto, set at the headquarters of a major American automotive company in Detroit; Jim Jefferies-created multi-cam Jefferies; Someone Out There, based on Spanish romantic comedy Pequeñas Coincidencias; and an untitled comedy from Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Dan Goor and Phil Jackson centered on Black people, dating, and wine. The network has already given series orders to Young Rock, The Kenan Show, and an untitled comedy from Tina Fey.
