And here we have the final article in KSiteTV’s 2015 upfronts coverage. This time, Editor-in-Chief Craig Byrne and Staff Writer Shilo Adams are taking a look at The CW’s fall 2015 schedule, which was especially stable given how strong a 2014-2015 season they had. With only one new fall show, the network concentrated on maintaining its momentum and protecting its assets, but will The CW come to regret not doing more for the fall? Or is being more conservative giving them a stronger base from which to build later in the season?

You can check out the corresponding articles on the other Big Five fall schedules here, here, here, and here.

jane the virginSHILO: Possibly the biggest surprise in all of upfronts was the resurrection of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, a busted Showtime pilot that found its way to The CW’s fall schedule. When doing prediction articles, we try to account for network trends, how they feel about their development, and pilot buzz, but this was something that we couldn’t have prepared for, hence how off some of our predictions turned out to be. I wouldn’t have that thought The CW would A) only launch one newbie in the fall and B) have that newbie be a musical comedy once meant for pay cable. I get the idea that the network wanted something irreverent and specific to lead into Jane, that this might be their way of experimenting with a comedy night, but I worry that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, with its possibly off-putting title and direct musical competition in The Voice, will be too narrow to hold up the night.

CRAIG: For starters, I’m glad that The CW is keeping Jane the Virgin where it is. The best thing for a critical favorite like that, especially as it has been kind of unique in the genre-heavy CW lineup, is to have it stable. As for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend? Well, I do admire that The CW is already promoting it heavily during their summer programming. As you said, it is also a big surprising that the network has only one show this Fall — and since it is being changed from the original Showtime version, press hasn’t even seen *that.* As for how it will do? Big Bang and then Supergirl on CBS, The Voice on NBC, Dancing with the Stars on ABC, and Gotham on FOX say it all. The CW just has to hope beyond hope that this show is unique and different enough to pop. At the very least, hopefully Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will be sampled by more people than just the town of West Covina.
