Deadline is reporting that Weeds alum Hunter Parrish has joined The CW’s Jane the Virgin spinoff pilot Jane the Novela. He’ll be playing Felix, Napa’s most eligible bachelor who’s the heir apparent to his family’s winery. Although everything looks great on the surface, Felix is haunted by secrets from his past that are threatening to come to the surface.
From Jane the Virgin writer Valentina Garza, Jane the Novela is described as a telenovela-inspired anthology where each season is a novel “written by” Jane lead Jane Villanueva, with Gina Rodriguez set to provide narration. The first season of Jane the Novela takes place at a vineyard in Napa Valley and follows Estela (Jacqueline Grace Lopez) as she’s forced to live a double life.
In addition to his role on the Showtime comedy, Parrish’s television credits include Good Girls Revolt, The Good Wife, and This Is Us. He joins a cast that also includes Marcia Cross (Desperate Housewives), who plays his manipulative and glamorous mother Renata.
Jane the Novela is part of a pilot slate for The CW that includes Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene; DC-verse spinoff Batwoman; new takes on Nancy Drew and The Lost Boys; and Glamorous, about a YouTube vlogger who gets a job at a cosmetics company.
