HBO has released the trailer for upcoming Michaela Coel series I May Destroy You and in it, we see the impact that one event can have on the rest of someone’s life.

Created by, written by, produced by, and starring Coel (Chewing Gum), I May Destroy You follows carefree, easily distracted writer Arabella Essiuedu (Coel), who finds herself with an agent and a book commission after one of her articles goes viral. Even with the amount of pressure she’s under, it should be the time of her life, all the time and energy she’s invested in writing paying off handsomely. However, once Arabella gets sexually assaulted at a nightclub, she’s forced to reevaluate every aspect of her life while struggling to come to terms with what happened.

In addition to Coel, the series, a co-production between HBO and the BBC, stars Weruche Opia (Inside No. 9), Paapa Essiedu (Kiri), Aml Ameen (Yardie), Adam James (Belgravia), Sarah Niles (Catastrophe), Ann Akin (Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams), Harriet Webb (Plebs), Ellie James (Giri/Haji), Franc Ashman (Peep Show), Karan Gill (Flesh & Blood), Natalie Walter (Horrible Histories), and newcomer Samson Ajewole.

I May Destroy You is set to premiere on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO on Demand and affiliate portals this June.
