The midseason finale of The CW’s Beauty and the Beast airs this Monday, November 25, and in it, we see some serious conflicts between the characters and a showdown with Reynolds, the antagonist who also happens to be Cat’s father. Vincent (Jay Ryan) and Cat (Kristin Kreuk) may have opposing opinions on how to deal with him.
The CW this morning held a screening of the episode which preceded a Q&A with Executive Producer Brad Kern, who answered many questions about the current state of “VinCat” (the Vincent/Catherine relationship) and what that might mean for the future. More specifically, and getting to the point — how long will it be before these two fulfill their destiny to be together?
“They have to earn their relationship,” Kern says. “I mean, they got together so quickly last year, as you guys know. It’s an epic love; they’re meant to be together… but our design for the season, really, was asking the audience to go along with us on the ride, to explore what happens when a relationship comes together maybe too fast, and you lose yourself inside the relationship, and separating them for all these very emotional and practical and moral reasons will help them in the next several episodes [to] learn more about who they are separately. The plan is for that to make them stronger as individuals, to understand better who they are, ultimately so they can find their way back to each other, stronger than ever. That’s the hope; that’s the plan,” he confirms.
“But it is Cat and Vincent, right? So even when they are separated, they’re never apart, because as we like to say, the universe wants them to be together, even when they’re apart,” he continues. “So, the fun of the next several episodes will be watching all the different ways that they come together, which is kind of a sign for them. But, we’re exploring their separate characters, although as I say, there won’t be very many scenes where they’re not together, because the gods want them together, and I think the audience does, too.”
Kern is well aware that a world full of rabid “Beasties” will not be happy unless they get some payoff. “I live in a gated community, but I still think the fans would climb the gates and tear down my house if we kept them apart for too long,” he laughs before explaining the plan for the relationship on the series. “They’re meant to be together. You can’t put two people together right away and keep them together; there’s no legs to a series if you do that. What do you play? So, the challenge this year has been how we build a show that might last five years, or longer. We can’t do that by having them together, and we can’t really explore their individual characters together. Last year they were defined by each other because they were thrown together, which is fair, that’s what that season was about. But going forward, looking beyond just Season 1 or Season 2, but trying to build a show that has the foundation to really reward the epic romance, it’s challenging that relationship, and the metaphor really is for anybody 
who is in a relationship, the relationship has to be challenged, and you have to overcome obstacles. Not always other beasts, but the metaphor is there’s other challenges that we all have to overcome to test the relationship, to see if it really is worthy for them to be together. Not just because it’s epic, but because they really deserve to be together. They earned that relationship,” he explains. “We’ve had a lot of fun playing them, even on opposite sides of a case, and there they are running into each other again, and it becomes a little Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which is romantic. Romance exists even when couples are apart,” he says.
Kern is aware that some fans and critics weren’t too happy with Cat sacrificing so much for Vincent early on in the season, and he addressed that concern with a challenge to that argument. “Some of the fans had given us a little heat for Cat sacrificing too much, not being strong enough, but I challenge that by saying ‘when do you give up on love?’ At what point, when you’ve put in so much time into somebody who is in trouble, at what point do you say ‘that’s it. You’re on your own?’ And that was the question we wanted to ask this first 8 episodes. We wanted to start showing some of the cracks in her character, and her frustration as she went to try to go to the reunion, and she tried to go out with Tess… she tried to get her life back, concurrent with saving this guy, because she was recognizing that she was sacrificing too much. That’s tough love, right? That’s what we were always aiming for, and now, we venture into the consequences of post-tough love. Tough love is sometimes necessary for a relationship to come back stronger together. We’re banking on the audience buying into the season, to let us tell the story so that we can develop their relationship separately and together, as adults,” he says.
With all that said, even if the “epic romance” is not at the forefront, and even if there is conflict, Kern says Cat and Vincent have a lot connecting them. “Cat and Vincent will be on opposite sides of cases for a short while, which will, again, be super fun to watch, but they will also discover that there’s more than just the love that binds them,” Kern teases. “They’re destined to be together for more than just romantic reasons. There’s a mythological reason that we’ll discover, too.”

Season one was way better than this season…Noone wants this conflict…viewers want Vincent and Catherine together fighting all obsticles.. TOGETHER….and the show is epic love so there is absolutely no room for Triangles….This is Beauty and the Beast…look at the love stories of the predecestors…no Triangles…If you want a season 3 ..you need to understand what the viewers want..not what you want.

We understand you need to make a show for years but stick on ONE thing only, no triangles, no betrayed between cat and vince, we need them together even in teh worst situations, but vincat against all what u need to put….If U want us voting, seeing and making bigger the fanbase, have to listen what we want…and we let you put all the troubles u want, but no vince and cat fight on principles each other…they can have difference but not BETRAYED the other..that is not the spirit of BATB and even with a show different from the 80´s, U (producers and writers) make us believe and love a show that has one vince different in circumstances but the same vincent of BATB in his heart, his honest, his loyalty…..that is the CORE, don’t break that, because we DON’T want to see him betraying Catherine….NO WAY….If you dont listen beasties, the show will lose one beastie at the time….put all the danger u want but dont put triangles…we want vincat AGAINST the world if U want but not vince against cat on anyway!
You have completely destroyed this love story. True love DOESN’T have TRIANGLES! That was a huge mistake and a promise broken. After the terrible Alex arc we were told never again. You have let us down. We can handle conflict but the kind of love Vincent and Catherine hsve would never allow for them to want someone else even for a minute. I’m very disapointed about this intervier. Because It’s obvious they made the wrong choices for the show. The audience is not enjoying it so much anymore, cause we don’ t see the elements that we loved on the show and made us adicted to it. Just look at the critics and ratings! They made plans for 5 seasons, but we won’t haver the third one. The fans, caracters and actors didn’t deserv that. At least they should give us an happy end in the last episode. I’m sorry for my english, cause I’m a brazilian beast.
If the show continues this direction I doubt five seasons will happen. Not even three,…This is Beauty and the Beast. Viewers are woman after a romantic story , an epic love. S1 was GREAT. Where is the romance now??? The Epic Love writers keep talking about ?? Triangles are a big NO in a love story. Last season after the Alex arc we lost so many viewers, so I believed writers had taken the hint. And what do we get this season?? Another triangle with another redhead. I could not believe my eyes the other day, OMG, . Vincent and Cat are supposed to love each other, noone else . I am very disappointed in S2 and each episode is getting more frustrated to watch. I hope we can get back the magic we got on S1 . And that better happen soon, before viewers, me included , decide to just not watch the show anymore.

He’s right, if a relationship is to be dramatic and compelling in the long-term, the lovers have to be star-crossed along the way. I know VinCat are destined to be together, and I know I’ll appreciate the payoff even more when they fight their way back to each other. (Just don’t take too long!)
Come to think of it, we were actually really lucky they got together from the start. On a lot of other series, like Bones, it takes 8 seasons before the central couple gets together.

This was an excellent interview and Brad has given us a gift! If anyone comes away not feeling positive, even though Vin/Cat are still going to go through separations and troubles, to come back together stronger, then I don’t know what else they can say! #BATB is so attuned to what the #Beastie fandom wants they are seriously looking ahead for more Seasons, so we cannot stop ROARING for BATB #scifitv and Kristin Kreuk #scifiactress #PeoplesChoice. Season 1, to me, was all about them connecting to one another on a level that no one around them could understand. That is why this Season is so important, even though some are in a tailspin about it, because if you’re going to be in a forever kind of relationship, it needs the strength not only from being together, but coming to the relationship knowing who you are to reinforce it.
This show was Number One show for me last year. Now I am getting upset with each episode, no sure how much more I can take. So if you are going to fix VinCst, better do it quick. This is a romantic story. So I don’t see where the problem is to have Vincent and Cat together. There are a lot of plots the show can explore and still keep VinCat together. And again annother triangle? Great idea! Really? Because the Alex triangle was such a hit among the Beasties last season. Ugh. Writers say they listen to the Beasties. I doubt that.

When Vincent threw Cat, good number of fandom jumped ship. You see Kristin talking about that scene on TVLine interview. How she was worried for Jay b/c she knew crap like this would happen if they played it wrong… well, they played and also edited that scene wrong. Tumblr feed started shrinking after that episode.
When they cast Tori and said they forgot Vincent’s ex Alex was also a redhead! More face palm. They don’t even know what happened on their own show.
Pitting tall redheads and beast/Vincent against Cat who is a waif is also fail. So many fails this season. People will automatically want to protect the smaller fragile looking girl. No one does fragile, heartbroken cry face better then Kristin. Like, come on, have you not seen Smallville?

On a whole different note, I think Jay would make an awesome villian in the new Fox show, Almost Human. When they cancel this show, I hope someone at Fox picks him up. That show is really good.

But she should distance herself, show strength, dignity and demand respect by making it clear to "keep their hands to themselves until [they] figure this out" < whatever happened to this season1 Cat?!? The writers seriously need to start SHOWING rather than TELLING me their love is 'Epic'. And I don't mean through a kiss or make-out session or sex but really SEE their special bond and connection. Because with "the whole second choice" from last season and the quickly remembering his old flame/not Cat, and now seeing Vincent's special bond with She-Beast…I'm at a loss. I'm not seeing what makes Catherine so special to Vincent and vice-versa. On the contrary, all I'm seeing, is everyone else has more of a soul-mate connection with Vincent THAN Catherine.

Thank you, Sally. You’ve articulated your thoughts so well, I don’t need to add more. This show is a shell of it’s former self. Instead of enjoying each and every week, I’m terrified of what’s to happen because I dread what type of butchery the writers have done to each of the characters in each episode. I’m tired of hearing “Epic Love” when it’s been such a far cry from that between VinCat. There is no love there. I don’t even think Vincent remembers or is even in love with Catherine at this point. All he seems to want to do is get in her pants. And let me just say that this “new and improved” Vincent is a major fail. I’m’ not digging the womanizer and wife beater Vincent, the one that seems to be so easily swayed by any woman who comes across his path but his supposed “love of his life” Catherine. From the shove, to the stupid Gabriella flashback, and now his obvious cheating on Catherine due to his “primal urges”..his character is beyond repair at this point and Catherine needs to run for the hills. Speaking of Catherine, where is my Catherine? They have totally destroyed the confident, take no BS/prisoners, and strong Catherine and turned her into a naive and weak willed character. Tired of seeing her get hurt all the time and excusing Vincent for all his indiscretions. Any other decent woman would’ve gave up on this hot mess Vincent a long time ago..but not this Cat. She seems to forgive and forget so easily it screams of desperation. So disappointed in this season and now we have redhead in the mix..I can go on all day how I hate this Tori girl. Not only is she weak ass actress, she’s going to be around for a while causing even more problems between VinCat…as if they needed anymore obstacles. And it looks like from this interview VinCat will be apart for most of it…gee thanks. This show doesn’t look to be getting a 3rd season based on ratings and now it will end with VinCat getting back together possibly towards the end of the season. Not satisifying enough for me.
I concur that the story told now on BatB is so very different from s1. U understand that other fans are thrown off by it. The reality is that I love the twists and turns this season more than other tv (fantasy) shows as they become ridiculous sometimes. BatB however stays close to RL.. it could all happen for real! kind of mystified by the comments some people are making. I don’t think we’re all watching the same show. I’ve been struggling since s2 started to re-capture that essence, that feeling I had of being in love with the show and slowly I could sense it slowly creeping up on me then suddenly Episode 7 happened “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and BAM I got hit. The feelings I experienced, I was all over the map: happy, sad, giddy, angry, scared it was AMAZING. If I want ho-hum, calm and relaxed well I have a full PVR of other shows to pick from but in my estimation the quality of a show is dependent upon the range of emotions it can make me feel. I want something that leaves me in such a state that I can’t help but return to find out what’s going to happen next. If a show is predictable it becomes boring and so far Beauty and the Beast has been anything but boring. Beauty and the Beast is a show of passion and intensity and you either love it or hate it and if you love it hang on tight because it’s gonna get wild and if you hate it maybe you just need to decide if this ride is for you or not. People who are afraid of the Roller Coaster don’t get on it they go and ride the Merry-go-Round because it makes them feel safer. I myself can’t stand the Merry-go-Round, it’s too boring and sedate but I do love the Roller Coaster. Just the idea that the car I’m in could suddenly leave the tracks and go flying through the air is thrilling enough to make me want to ride it more (and yes I would love to parachute out of a plane). BATB isn’t for the faint of heart, it’s for the brave and true, it’s for those who believe, it’s for the daring and the crazy and it’s for those who no matter what will always root for Vincent and Catherine and know that they know that they KNOW they are destined even when all the evil forces of the universe are against them. I believe…. DO YOU?

For goodness sake pull yourselves together go sit down and rewatch the episodes since Tori joined and you shall notice Vincent’s reaction everytime they touch,He is now well aware of what she does to him and am sure wont be going for hug etc again.
This season has been awesome yes I hated the kiss myself yes I moaned and tweeted the writers I took advice of others and watched in a calmer state and noticed what they were talking about.
We need to keep it fresh and move it along if we want Season 3.Can we also get over the bloody shove Vincent is a BEAST now even more so than when Catherine met him,the shove has been talked n debated to death lets leave it now for the show’s and my sanity’s sake,

Like any tv show there are those who love, those who hate and those sitting on the fence. BATB is no expception. The problem I see here is that as much as some people are really lovng this season, my question is WHERE ARE THE FANS?
Last year from about episode 11 on our fans steadily increased to almost 1.9 million views at the season finale. WHERE ARE ALL THOSE PEOPLE who fell in love with season 1 and this love story?
We are seeing 1/3 of that. Even if the live and dnr viewing is better that still doesn’t mean we have over a million views doing that-raising 100% in that doesn’t mean that so many people are choosing to watch it that way-if 50 people watch it that way one week and 100 the next that is a 100% increase-doesn’t mean it is great numbers.
It is statistically impossible for over a million people to suddenly be watching The Voice or Sleepy Hollow-there has to be another reason and I think it is the drastic changes to show this year. People can’t do big changes from year to year especially if it is a new show. Maybe from season 4 to 5 you can get away with big changs but not fro season 1 to 2!
Whatever you do with this show it is always going to be considered a fairy tale-not one person in WEstern world does not know that. You can make some shows like Sleepy Hollow dark but not BATB it is an epic love story and it doesn’t work here-doing that just makes it like all the other shows on TV right now-it doesn’t make it unique.
I like the fact that both characters need to be strong-I disagree they got together too fast in SO1-that was the perfect time-REMEMBER writers you are writing for the fans not yourselves because WE are the ones that get you seasons to seasons-if we don’t watch-no advertising=no show.
This show this year is totally off balance so far-characters that have no business being in the forefront are like Gabe and Tori-Imean come on 6 or more episodes of Tori-we have seen 5 minutes of JT this season so far-whether you needed to make things challenging or not. The only way to make this show work is to have that balance between the light and the dark-all we have seen so far and it looks like for a while longer is the dark.
Come on Brad Kearns, you have this amazing vision-even you must see that the fans are not here and are not coming back any time soon-get this love story rollilng or you may not even see a whole season!
I don’t say any of this easily, because I was such a huge fan of this show. I was one of those fans
who saw potential in this show from day one, and was so excited when it just kept getting better
and better throughout s1, and showed all the naysayers, that it was something special. Unfortunately, though, s2 has absolutely, 100% ruined this show, and they have turned Vincent/Catherine, a once rootable, touching, and sweet relationship, into nothing but a toxic pairing. I don’t think I’ve ever
seen a show turn their love story into a such a disaster in just one episode. If you watch the season one
finale, and the premiere, it’s like their two different shows, two radically different ships, and not in a good way. I will never understand how season 2 is supposedly ‘new and improved’. Vincent’s character has been massacred and turned into an abusive asshole, and Catherine has been reduced to desperate, weak woman who just puts up with her abuser. Kristen and Jay, bless their hearts, can only do so much with the awful material their given, and it shows. The writing has reduced their wonderful chemistry to supbar, and whatever chemistry they have left is overshadowed by their now destructive and vile relationship. Sadly my only reaction when watching their scenes now is that I want Catherine to be strong enough to run away from Vincent forever. It’s such a shame. If I would have known what season 2 would have done to this show, I would have never wanted it to be renewed. I would have happily accepted and embraced the ending of Vincent being captured, because at least their characters would have remained intact. Anyway, since this is 99.9% the last season, because the ratings are almost non-existent at this point, I do hope by the end of the season, they can at least somewhat redeem what they’ve done, and end the show on a more positive note, but I’m not going to hold my breath.
I agree Maureen and will some of the others. I really think this is a good arc with finding out what each one can accept of the other, because you are right they had no boundaries in season 1 BUT unless we start to see some changes, I don’t think this show is long for this world. Which would be a shame as we have amazing actors, amazing chemisty and a solid story line-it isjust how it is being done this year. You cannot go from 0-60 and expect people to buyin. It was an awesome season 1 and though it may have been the base for season 2, and we all do know they are destined but that does not make this ride doable for many people. I think that many of the fans are just waiting until epside 15 or 16 to maybe see them back together. Do you honestly think people want to watch Vincent with someone else again-in whatever form. I don’t think any one of us believe that it is only going to be a kiss-this is everything pushed to the extreme.
You talk about making Cat strong so she is suppose to forgive Vincent yet again for being with someone else? And the excuse is primal urges-well love and protection is a primal urge too and with in an epic love story surely those things win out–I can see Cat with someone else for SHORT SHORT time but not Vincent again and you are losing fans over it.
So we are suppose to hang in there when we have had 8 episdoes of hell, then will have another 2 or 3 after Christmas while you play out this Tori line-who has already been in it way too long and then we will see Cat try something with someone else. I think many of us are okay with the arc but each individual episode is killing many of us.
It will really be interesting to see how many people actually watch the mid season finale-we have already had 7 episodes of despair, we know Vincent chooses the beast side and Tori and Cat shoots Vincent so yah I think we will our 1.7 million viewers we had a the finale-NOT! Wake up and smell the roses people – do what you need to do to challenge this couple but make it believable and stay true to season 1-whatever you think the seasons cannot be separate-we had a season 1 and we got hooked because of that season; you cannot afford to lose any more fans- we are certainly not bringing any new ones in-and the ones we had last year seem to be moving on to something else.
Why are people so angry about the new direction ? Lack of morality , nonsense violence , cheating triangles and dumb heroines have always been CW core business. Their not-so-human romances are anything but epic . It’s CW . You are supposed to know what you are buying and BATB is just another CW love story. Don’t be so negative .Enjoy what you have , should be Batb last season. Brad Kern optimism is charming but totally overrated.

It bugs me that they couldn’t break them up in a different way in the beginning of the season. They did this breakup in such crappy way that some fan are actually afraid to watch the show. You see them asking if it’s safe to tune in.
That they wanted fans to embrace Tori as a sympathetic character, option her as regular when they introduced her in such a shady way.
Did they have to kill a beast in every episode? So predictable.They could have attempted to tell their stories a bit. That magic beast, when he fell off the elevator shaft, I was hoping he would escape and come back to haunt them in a later episode. That would have been fun… that scene truly looked like a graphic novel. He was a strong actor.
Kidnapped episode is so cringy. Kidnapping, that excuse to play s&m blindfold crap.. sex.. the roof.. such a clusterF. .
How about something mundane as Cats remodeled apt, including her bed when she can’t give two sh*ts about her dead dad, Heather and everyone else. Also, she forgot to fix her window…fail.
Also, lighting is harsh this season.. no warmth to the show.. I can go on…

It’s a shame that you’ve turned Vincent into a lying, cheating boyfriend. It happened once with Alex and now again with Tori. For Vincent to say that Tori kissed him. Really! His lips definitely moved at the same time and he was obviously enjoying it. There’s more chemistry between Vincent/Tori than Vincent/Cat. I’m also starting to get tired of Cat forgiving him over and over again. Once maybe, but twice, not a chance. So much for being the “best boyfriend ever”. Testing Vincent and Cat’s love is part of the show, but it’s a shame that you made Vincent cross that line with another woman and hurt the one who loves him. If it was to break up with Cat (thought I heard Cat’s heart beating), then was he using Tori? Equally bad! Just a no win situation for Vincent.
Firstly lets start with the positive. Thank you Brad Kern for making Season 2 a real mantra to How Brave is Your Love and Who Am I. I knew he warned us that VinCat were headed for a crapload of troubles and boy have they. Not gonna lie ~ the ONLY reason I watch BATB is because of Vincent and Catherine and I DO miss the sweet romance of Season 1dreadfully. However I am willing to wait it out as Catherine and Vincent are meant to be but not TOO long please!
Thank you to Brad for making Beast 2.O so compelling and conflicted. You allow Jay Ryan to flex his acting muscles and for that alone I am really grateful as I enjoy his character so much MORE now in all his beastliness than the puppy dog he was in Season 1 (adorable though he was). The trouble with a certain faction of the female fans and I do hope it is a minority is that they can’t let go of the Season 1 mentality of sugar and nice. I think Vincent has remained very true to his Season 1 character and his behavior and actions in Season 2 no matter how questionable stem from his rebooted self and I have absolutely NO issues with him so far.
Now Catherine’s behavior I find more questionable ~ she is blowing hot and cold with Vincent and that is pretty annoying. Either we get a straight out breakup while they work out their issues no matter how painful or let her stand behind her man 100% as she knows Vincent is the VICTIM in all this. Her confusion confuses me.
Now I’ve been totally on board with all that the show has thrown at VinCat in Season 2 so far except TORI. Really guys? Did you have to go THERE? You must know how anti Alex most of the fandom is. Introducing a female born beast (is she?) was an interesting concept BUT you did NOT have to make her a potential sexual temptation to Vincent. THAT I can’t get behind. One kiss I can take through gritted teeth but please do NOT cross any more RED lights! If Vincent goes so far as to have sex with Tori or any other woman in future episodes that is a BETRAYAL to VinCat, the show and to to even the most loyal and diehard fans ~ myself included. He must NEVER ever betray Catherine consciously especially now that he KNOWS the extent of Tori’s effect on him. Even if VinCat breakup temporarily, HELL NO to stupid Tori seducing Vincent or him having a fling with anyone else please.
Give VinCat OTHER obstacles they can face TOGETHER like Reynolds which I wholeheartedly approve of ~ other Beasts, family problems, terrorists, Aliens even ~ all good. Just NOT another stupid female. Get rid of Tori ASAP. Her character is RUINED for me with that pass at Vincent. Much as I despise love triangles if we have to have this element in BATB I would rather it be a hot NORMAL suitor for Cat (and I don’t mean annoying Gabe). I’d rather see a jeolous Vincent have to WOO Catherine than another sickening woman for him. TWO redhead strikes against Vincent already. The way fans are reacting do NOT go for a third otherwise we won’t even see a third season and that’s the awful truth. ENOUGH with THIS direction. Play nice with us BATB. We love this show so much and it has such great potential. At the very heart of the show is VinCat. They are stronger together than they are apart. Never forget that.
I understand they needed to expand Vincent’s universe and break the couple up a bit. I think the big problem happened when they didn’t fully develop the supporting characters. There’s really no other relationship to care for in this series besides VinCat. I mean, who can you love this season if you don’t have Vincent and Catherine? Nobody.
All the characters they tried to develop in season 1 either died, like Evan, Gabe & his girlfriend, her dad, or threw it away, like Cat & Tess, Cat & her shrink, Cat & Heather, Cat & her dad, Vincent & JT, Evan & Jt, Joe and Gabe,Tess & Joe. The producers literally killed every relation-friendship that was interesting.
A lot of people found Evan and Catherine’s relationship fascinating. I shipped it! I remember the love Evan was getting on Twitter last season. I loved her brief relationship with the shrink. I wanted Heather to date him and bring awkwardness to the dinner table. JT’s at school was endearing and was hoping to see that side more. Her dad and Tess calling her out when needed was refreshing. I found Gabe’s girlfriend fascinating. All that stuff is completely gone.
The only character they really developed in season 1 was Gabe. They explained his history and I guess that’s why they brought him back? Well, this season, they’re not developing anybody’s character except for Vincent. It’s Vincent 100% of the time. No other ships! Everyone else is dead in the water.
This is why the show is not good this season. Not because they broke up, cause there’s really nobody to love until VinCat find their way back. Fans see no eggs in the basket. Writers didn’t give us other ships to hang on to.
They fumbled with Tori’s introduction for sure. Her character could have been a good addition but we’ll really won’t know because all I see is hate for Tori. And they already caved and said Tori would be gone. The fans don’t trust the writers.
All I know is that I miss Heather the most. She was in her own little world. She called people out like nobody’s business. She was sassy, bubbly and thew fun parties. She needs to throw one of those parties like ASAP.
You are totally rightTavee! The great thing about lastt year too was the rest of the cast. So far this year, we have seen Vincent, Tori and Gabe as being the main characters and it looks like they are going to develp Tori way more that originally planned, even though she won’t be in it the whole season. That would have been crazy anyway, though would not put it past the writers this year.
We saw a glimmer of something else last episode with JT and Tess but honestly as much as Brad Kearns does not want to admit it, all those relationships last year worked-maybe we will get back to that at some point this year, but again WHEN is the question. Every show needs to have a core group of characters and for BATB it is Cat, JT, Tess and Vincent-you can include Gabe as the antagonist but suddenly he has become the glue that holds everything together and last year he tried to kill everyone. I still can’t get that Cat seems to hang on his everyword this year. She cannot forgive Vincent for becoming something he had no control over but is doing a pretty goodjob forgiving Gabe for what he did to them
See for me this year so far is totally out of kilter! Maybe that is the plan but it reallly is making it hard to stay committed, because even though I know they will make it back to each other, I really don’t want to spend the next 10 episodes seeing this )_____! They told us over and over that they would keep the things that worked last season and get rid of the things that didn’t–well they did the opposite-they have totally blown apart all the supporting relationships and done the one thing they know really hurt the show and that was the love triangles. It would have been okay to see potential for a relationship to develop between Vincent and Tori but right off the get go they had them lip locking and no resistance from Vincent and that is only the tip of the iceberg it seems for the two of them and again Vincent can fight Cat on their stuff, even t hough he feels the emotion, but not TORI-what kind of a beast is he cannot fight for the “mate” he wants!
I feel totally conflicted-do I keep watching for the success of the show because if by some miracle we get a 3rd season, then we are going to see them together for good working things through together or do I wait until they get back together. I am not one to run just because things get tough but the whole feeling of this show has been so totally tainted by the first 7 and for sure the 8th episode and it hasn’t been entertaining for me. I watch lots of shows where the main couple are not togethter for a time, they are not epic romances, but they go through stuff-I get it, but when one of the shows you love most in the world, start making you NOT want to watch it, then when is enough , enought as CAT says.
I feel that the fans have totally been betrayed this season-not because the writer’s don’t have a good vision for the season-some really good story lines with developing character and challenging love-but we were loud and clear about how we felt about certain t hings and they writer’s totally ignored that and went ahead and did those things anyway–then they want us to come along for the ride-well if you want that, then listen to what we have to say!

I was one of the many fans who supported and fought for this show in S1 because it was a great show. I am also the first to condemn it because of how awful the writing is on S2. The writers have destroyed VinCat epic love. I know a lot of fans will defend it and that is fine. We all cannot have the same opinions. IMO including Tori and the kissing business with her is bad for the VinCat romance fanatics. Fans watch this show for the epic love between them. You destroy that fantasy you destroy the show and the fandom.
Perhaps it is easy for other fans to accept Vincent kissing other women because he is not himself. I cannot agree to that and I cannot make excuses for him. He is a grown man beast or not. I still think they can write a better storyline than this. Very disappointed that they took this route. I want to say what I feel but I don’t think there is no way to save this show. A lot of fans have left disillusioned. It’s too bad it started good, I wish they listened to fans more and not got too cocky about their short lived fame. I do not believe there will be a S3.
I agree with most of the people that have posted here.The writers have taken a wonderful story and twisted it into something that people don’t want.The reason most people watched Beauty and the Beast last season, was the obvious love between Vincent and Catherine.That is gone.Everything about their relationship is so fake.I miss some of the characters from last year.They have hardly used J.T. this year so far.I don’t think most fans will continue to watch unless the writers give the fans some idea of the two getting back together.Also this year,Vincent is very cold.I know he lost his memory but now that he is getting it back,why have him making out with yet another redhead.Sorry,new writers,you have missed the mark.If you would have just had them fighting crimes,etc together,the fans would have been happy.But you have almost given Gabe a huge part on this show and forgot about J.T. who is suppose to be Vincent’s best friend.I think this mid season finale will make my decision as far as continuing to watch.If it is more of the same garbage,then I guess I will have to find a new show to watch.Too bad,because I loved it last season and even the episode Hothead had some tender moments.
So what did Brad Kearns really tell us in his interview. That they would get back together in the end-we all know that will happen. All he has basically told us is that they will get back together but it will be painful till it gets there.
I am so dissapointed in Jennifer and Sherri-last year I felt they were so committed to this show and listening to the fans but this year it feels like they are thumbing their noses up at us like we are not important anymore. I mean this was their show last year, and they have allowed someone to take it over and destroy everything they created and convince everyone it needed to be re-done cause they got together too fast in season 1. That is aload of crap-they got together at exactly the time they should have-and if this year it is much later than that-well I think the few remaining die hard fans will be gone too.
Guess what your amazing season and amazing arc is backfiring. Our ratings are the worst on the CW and there certainly isn’t anything good to look forward to for awhile yet-Vincent will still be choosing beast after Christmas, he will still be obsessed with Tori-he still won’t have his memories of Cat, the few feelings he remembered of Cat in the first few episodes mean nothing now that Tori is in the picture and Cat will be trying to re-build her life alone-yah great season!
Sylvia, I don’t think anything from last year will come back. I thought this was Vincent’s chance to tell his story. Develop his character a bit. But it was just an excuse to make him a Jersey shore type of brute with excuse to kill other beasts.
What I hoped they would do is have him form a beast pack of sorts. So that he can have a storyline without being tied to JT or Catherine. So he can have a bit of a beast family and spy on his real family. His world could expand that way. Instead, they locked him on a boat, tweedling thumb in-between missions, waiting to bag Catherine. Charming, right?
He is still human on that boat after these missions, is he not curious about his past? Family? DId they zap all the brain cells? Not even a bit of introspection on that boat, right? Because he has to start a life with his girlfriend, whom he barely knows? And this drags for 7 episodes. What kind of herp derp writing is that?
Meanwhile, the supporting cast, they’re there, what’s left of them anyway, in the background, pushing papers in the precinct and whatnot. Gabe and Tori (much later), these characters speak some lines but they don’t really add anything to the plot. The producers must think we are really dumb and can’t follow anything complex. How can anyone follow Game of Thrones? So many characters, that people love, and love to hate, and they get killed off!!, and yet people still can’t get enough, because! because! because! duh the writers attach interesting lives to these characters, and have them voice it just a bit before they killed off. I’m getting way off track. :)
This is why everyone is going insane on Tori. They introduced her as a wedge instead of a possible beast family. Of course, fans are going to blow their top. The horrible, one note season dragged on to this. There’s nothing for VinCat ships now. Catherine has become a lapdog that Vincent does his thing with and she still comes back for more.
Why even introduce any new characters at this point, the fans aren’t going to attach themselves to it. They’ll probably get killed off in one or two episodes. They really need to stop killing people off. And Gabe, don’t just stand there with your doctors kit! Scheme or something, right? He’s a lawyer with a doctors kit for godsakes :), he can make it happen! Do something with these regulars instead of using them as cardboard cutout.
But back to your dilemma of watching or not watching, I would stop watching if it depresses you. I’m still watching it for what it is, a train wreak with possibilities of amazing love scenes and unintentional funny scenes. Did you not laught at Tori’s dad? His beast was just flat out funny. And if Heather comes back, party time! :)
Get a grip everyone! What a great show this is and KK and JR are such a spot on Beauty and Beast. There is conflict in every relationship and everyone know they truly do love each other and will be together in the end. .You guys are like a bunch of teenage girls waiting for Vincent to yell out his undying love for Cat every episode. The writes need room to create a story that give us some action, drama and suspense, otherwise it would get dull and repetitive and the actors would never get challenged. This new lady beast Tori is a hot female beast and a challenge for Cat, but so what? At this stage Cat is throwing herself at Vincent and he can do no wrong. Want to see another side of her, the strong female who can overcome and move on if she really had to. She started out so strong but as Vincent got stronger as a beast Cat has become weaker as a woman. I would like to see that strong side of her get back up and focus on Cat for awhile without thinking about this guy 24/7. Anyway, this new Beast is not the real Vinceent and the old Vincent will seep through soon and the real Vincent will have no interest in Tory.:-) The love story is sweet and beautiful but give the love some challenges or the story will get old quickly. To my way of thinking the fans are 50/50 thisyear. Half the people love it, half hate it and it is the half that hate it that worries me. I think everyone is okay with making it harder to be in love and working through the challenges but it is how you do that that makes the difference. They went through some pretty big challenges in season 1 and it was done in a way that people were able to accept but still be on the edge of their chairs. I really feel that this is a good story arc BUT again it is all about how it gets presented for people to buy in.
This year is totally different, they have pushed everything to the limit and it is pretty obvious that half of the fans are not buying into it—so there needs to be a meeting in the middle. It is human nature that no one can please everyone but you have to please more than just 1/2 the people. Give each half something they can live with-right now that is not happening and it has been almost half the season.
I mean the w hole she beast thing is understandable in this world-but having Cat and Vincent make out at her Dad’s place and a few minutes later he is making out with Tori? That is not good writing or well thought out.
I am all for developing the characters and making Vincent turn into what he was suppose to be is an understandable arc as well but to take all those things that made Season 1 special and make people go awe to that absolute extreme is too much for half of the fans to handle. We all know they will get back together or it would not be beauty and the beast but make it acceptable for everyone-you cannot write a show for just one portion of the audience and ilf your audience is not engaged you have to do something different.
You can tell us to get a grip or get it together but at the end of the day it is all about MONEY! It doesn’t matter how amazing your actors are-if the show is not performing then the money is just not there are no matter what people believe about the story and how great it is this year, no one can deny that our ratings are dismal and in my opinion if they do not change things up a bit, then that 50% of people who are “getting on for the ride” are going to disappear and the ratings will go down even more. I am not just worried about a 3rd season, I am worried about making it to the end of this season!

I feel bad for the writers : pleasing the fans , the producers, the network , the directors , the actors is a tricky game : Brad Kern is not the last Samurai , somewhat admitted season 2 is struggling putting the writers & cast in a corner. It will be interesting to see how they can get themselves out of it but unconstructive harsh criticism won’t keep them motivated or more creative. There are so many crap shows out there and Batb is not the worst . I choose to stay open to new storylines and don’t be so negative about this Tori character .She won’t stay around for too long , I know a bus is waiting for her so I see no reason to be nasty unless you were not expecting her to blow everyone away with her – uh oh – acting skills . At least she can play an interesting game-changer in VinCat static dynamics in spicing up their chemistry-free relationship . Ryan/Kreuk look rather annoyed to play the “we are meant to be” role for yet another season. I feel very little for them in terms of emotional bond , spark or passion. By the way , does Tori has a cabin in the woods ? Vincent loves them. Not sure about Catherine :-)

I am sorry but I do not feel bad for the writer’s! They heard is in Season 1 and went ahead and did certain t hings anyway. I get they have to please a lot of people but that can still be done and make the show what it was last year.
I agree that harsh criticisim and insults don’t get anyone anywhere but at least it lets them know that some of what they are doing isn’t working. They are the ones that are suppose to be the professionals in this business and the success each one of them have had on other shows that had multiple seasons should have given them some insight into what the fans want and need. They did an amazing job last year, in my book, so where is that this year?
I think the whole Tori thing is not a bad thing as it is interesting to see what would happen if a she beast came along. It should have been done earlier in the season however, when Vince wasn’t remembering Cat. After he has some of these intense memories come back, then Tori walks in and suddenly he can’t fight his beast side. He is a beast, of course he can! And I am not sure who said having Cat and Vincent and Tori and Vincent make out in the same episode-that does cannot sit right with anyone!
I agree Vincent has to figure out if he is a beast or a man and Cat needs to b ack off on that one. Any normal person would choose to get rid of the guy after what he did to them; and Vincent is a beast so of course he chooses to kill the guy-that makes him more human than anything.
For those people loving the season I am happy for you but those of us who are not, we deserve to be satisfied too. We all are just as committeed and passionate as the next person but when this many people don’t like what is being done, then change it up. If this were an 80 happy 20 unhappy split then ya suck it up-but its not it is at least 50/50. You just have to go on any of the fansite and see that there as many people as happy as unhappy.
None of what has already happened can be undone, and I am not sure how many episodes have been filmed for after Christmas but for EVERYONES sake, I hope it is different We have already wasted half a season; it’s time to move on and get things going again in a positive way; not negative. The Tori things needs to be over soon after Christmas-she can still be in it but not as a love triangle.
And what is going to save the show is not the writer’s having to tweet the fans to tell them to hang in there-that is happening and it should not. If they had so much faith that this season was going to amazing and we would all buy into it, that should not have to happen!
I cannot believe Brad Kearns in his interviiew said ” the universe wants them together and I THINK the audience does too!” Are you kidding me!
The problem I think this year is that unless youlived through the Beauty and the Beast experience last year, either as an actor, writer or fan, you cannot do this series justice and that has been proven over and over again in the last 8 episodes. I know that I am not speaking for all of us, but a fair amount.
I just cannot fathom how anyone of those writers or actors that were in it last year, could think that we would all just buy in and come along for the ride. They honestly should have known us way better than that!
I just hope that it is not too late to save the show-maybe not for next year unless the back half of the season is really exceptional, which would mean the writers and Brad Kearns, getting over themselves and giving the rest of fans what they want too-not continuing to beg us to go along for the ride. The ride is crashing-so get us a different ride or we will all jump off the car!
Watched Man or Beast episode and what a great episode and thought the writers left us with a great lead up for second half of season.
I thought Gabe was going to die for sure and glad he is still around. Can’t believe Cat shot V but understand why. She finally came out of that love induced coma and did the right thing. She stood up for what she believed and did what was right..As I said in my previous post the real Vincent is temporarily unavailable as his handlers altered his personality, memory and they gave him new beastly powers. Don’t you guys think he is more beast than man right now judging from what he is doing from beginning of season two. In season one he was beastly but still had a very soft, loving human side that was very human and not at all beastly. Looking forward to January and the rest of the story. He will of course come round to his human side again and he and Cat will be together. Tory is not sticking around for long but love the edge she is bringing to the show. I think they have done a great job with casting all the actors and they are doing very creative writing to keep us in suspense. .Again I ask all you , especially those of you not happy with the romance side of the show to please hang in there as their love will prevail and they will be making beautiful beastly babies together in season 4, 5 and 6
Man or Beast was okay. Honestly, this season is flat out bad and getting worse. It’s a show on CW and Smallville fans especially love Kristin, so the show is getting a ton of pass. There are so many plot holes and just flat throwing away of stories they started in season 1, it’s like wtf.
This season is reboot of season one. They killed everyone or their stories except for Vincent and didn’t tell the audience about it. It’s supposed to a new canvas, but they messed that up too.
Kern is crazy thinking about 5 seasons. Why is he not telling the mythological story in tandem with Vincent’s story? Why not develop other characters and ships?
Vincent and Cat are so unlikable now. They should cancel it. I’ve been binge watching Sleepy Hollow recently and I’m actually embarrassed for this cast. Sleepy Hollow actually has excellent writing staff, acting is superb from EVERYONE. Even the no name guests who die! It’s funny, witty, romantic and has awesome social commentary. You look forward to the coming episodes. Look at us, everyone on BATB fandom are either crying, offended have left, or rooting for the wrong people like Bob and Gabe.

Everytime I read that interview and I keep thinking about Brad Kearns and his words “FUN”‘ it is going to be fun to watch them fall in love all over agian; it is super fun to watch them be on opposite sides of cases for awhile.
On what planet has the first 8 episodes been fun and it looks like there are a few more before Vincent regains his human side. Even all the story lines that are coming up; they all seem to be pretty intense which again is not bad but his vision has so totally changed the tone of this show.
Whether they got together too soon in season 1 or not; I loved that balance of romance, humour, drama.
And I really feel bad for the actors that mde the show last year: Kristin, Jay, Austin and Nina, even Sendhil- they are doing their part and the acting has been amazing in these episodes but the show is being driven into the ground. Even if it does recover a bit after Christmas, is it going to be enough? Our fans have steadily disappeared. I can see some coming back when the show get back to what it should be; a true love story. And you are right about the fandom Taviee, this season has split that up. There is no hype to the show this year like last year. People are really trying to get that back but it is hard for some fans after what they have been exposed to so far.
The other sad thing for me too is that it appears that Brad Kearns is still trying to attract the male audience and hasn’t learned yet that this show will always be a female show-it is the love story we all want in our lives. There is no self-respecting man who is going to tell their friends that he cannot watch SLEEPY HOLLOW cause he wants to watch BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
And it doesn’t appear that he is looking at the ratings and thinking Gee maybe I need to change it up a bit and get those fans back and get the hype going again. His interview re-iterated what he said before the season even started-so Brad- take a step back, look at what has been happening with the ratings-the rest of the writer’s and crew look at it too and think about how you are going to SAVE THIS SHOW so we at least have a fighting chance of another season or to even get through to the end of the season. Sometimes, you have to admit you made a mistake and fix it-it happens to all of us!
as a dedicated fan, I say get rid of Kerns and get back Jennifer and Sherri in the driver seat. He is ruining a great show and no doubt there will be no season 5. Where is the romance? isn’t that why we watch in the first place. Where is the love and passion. These characters are going to be out of a job soon. And Tess and JT..really??? that seems desperate. I thought he was interested in Sarah from last season. Did they just forget about that. With every passing episode I wonder why I am still watching.. I keeping thinking it will get better.

Who cares if they stay separated for 20 episodes, the problems is, they crossed the line. There is no going back. Its worst than Alex. There is no way this is epic love. Vincent pushed Catherine and that’s ok? What woman with a little self respect would tolerate that?? I’m sorry but i can’t see a future for Batb, i just can’t! After mid season finale i lost hope. Mark gave Batb a chance but the writers took fans for grated, now live with that. All the new shows are doing good so what you think is going down? Batb of course.
Don’t get me wrong but this whole 50/50 fans from what? The rating is almost half of last season…The numbers are terrible, People just don’t watch. It seems to me they really want Batb to be canceled. If that is their reason, they are doing a great job.
If I hear another person say that’s what makes tv fun…I’m gonna scream. Fun is enjoyable. And if half the fan base has already abandoned ship, exactly how much fun do u think they’ve been having? And many who have remained have remained b/c they are still holding on to the hope of the VinCat of S1 returning. U’ve screwed up…plain and simple! Catherine Chandler is supposed to be the lead in this show, not the newly written poor victimized, ego/@ssholecentric V2.0. Sherry Cooper and Jennifer Levin need to be back in charge. For they r the creators & understand the heart of a Beastie. This show needs to get back to what made us believers in the first place. Journey is more important than the destination. Journey is everything! They’ve effectively killed vincat by having her shoot him. By breaking the promise that Vincent would never physically hurt Cat. By having Vincent sexually attracted to Tori to the point where he can’t control himself? Did they really want Tori to become a regular character with that kind of pull on Vincent? For 4 more dreary seasons? Catherine should have been irresistible to Vincent, not Tori. Didn’t he stalk her for a decade?
At the core of this “love” story, when it comes down to Catherine and some other woman, Vincent always picks the other woman then crawls back to Catherine when he has no other option. I don’t understand this. Why do they write the characters like this? Why does she take him back so easily? What is this talk of myth and destiny? Do they mean like an arranged marriage? Because that would be gross. You want these characters to make choices of their own free will. And I see Vincent freely choosing someone else.
Look at the dvr live7 ratings, people have abandoned this show. I’m guessing that online viewership has gone down the drain as well. There really nothing to watch or rewatch unless your name is debbie downer.
I can only guess the threat of getting canceled means vincat will reconcile at the end of season 2, as friends, I’m hoping. Because Vincent needs therapy more than anything else and Catherine should experience someone who truly adores her.
What a big fricking mess has been made here! And I don’t think there’s enough mops to swab the deck, cause this boat’s sinking way too fast! This show was a breath of fresh air compared to it’s counterparts…no more. Let’s rename it “everything concerning the beast” (V2.0 ) let’s tag him with this pitiful woman whose always pining for him, always putting him b/f herself (Cat) no matter what he does b/c after all he’s a poor victim…poor self-centered cold, angry, abusive, lying, cheating fellow ~ every one else has controlled his behavior/his life. I need a tissue. And now let’s add a hint of the friends who’s identities don’t matter much anymore either! (JT&Tess) Wah Lah! There u have it. Ooh almost forget useless love interest. (Gabe&Tori) Hence the major f*ck up of what used to be a well balanced show with many dynamic characters and an unparallel love story. Way to go! No wonder so many have gotten off the infamous roller coaster. They are throwing up~
U know Vincent is carrying cross-species DNA and the beast side of him has taken over so he can’t be blamed for his behavior and doesn’t have his full memory; he’s being controlled u know/we should just be feeling sympathy and understanding for him….think like a beast audience not like humans, what’s the matter with u people?… just turn ur heads when he does unspeakable things to this beautiful woman we all saw him love and adore like a beautiful man in S1, it’s not his fault after all. Swallow, swallow, swallow. So how does it taste? Yummy? Want some more? Awesome ride! Yippee!
So how’s that increase in male audience thing going for u guys? And u’ve even retitled it “Beast” and they still didn’t come? That’s a shame.
Get a clue! We r being left with nothing to love anymore and everything we did love is being taken away!
Give batb a proper ending before it will be in hiatus forever!at least beasties will have a proper closer on this show!
They should’ve never brought another girl in the picture, I was all for a female beast but as someone who hated Cat’s mother for what she turned her into and going after Cat because the mother was dead and Cat finding out her mother isn’t really dead, she staged her death, she’s a beast in hiding because there are people who want her and her secrets.
Brad kern it’s already episode 10 till now we doesn’t see anything change on ur script and show !! All we see is Vincent being a bipolar beast and tori on his side as a dog!! How is important Tori’s character in beauty and beast ? She doesn’t help anything in regard to rating and audience! People are pissed already what you’ve been doin to the show!! Give us proper closure so this Vincent /tori arc is done!! Are really goin on a 3-5 yrs plan od batb or 3 months ?
