Sadly, LUX ended its run earlier this year, but thankfully, that’s not the end for Britt Robertson on The CW, as she will be playing Cassie Blake on the network’s bewitching new drama The Secret Circle, which premieres on September 15.
KSiteTV participated in an interview roundtable with Ms. Robertson and other members of the cast this weekend. Here’s what she had to say. Our questions are printed in bold, answers are not. Please do not reproduce this onto other websites; instead, just link to KSiteTV!

Can you talk about how The Secret Circle’s Cassie is so different from Lux?
There’s a lot to be said there. When Life Unexpected ended, I wanted to go on to a show that would really step outside of that world, so audiences wouldn’t be confused, like “Oh. Now Lux is kind of still Lux, wearing hats, but she’s just living in Timbuktu.” So I wanted to do something completely different, and I wanted to challenge myself, and when this opportunity came along, to still work with The CW and to work with Kevin on a genre show, it was like “Ohh! Genre! Sounds fascinating.” I had never been a part of that world, and it seemed like something that I could really get into. I jumped at the opportunity, for sure.
What kind of interactions does Cassie have with other members of the Circle?
I think coming into the city, this new town with her grandmother and her mom just passed, it’s all very overwhelming, and she’s just looking for someone to take her in in some way. She meets Diana, who is super-nice and cool, and she’s like “Right. This is my new friend. Oh. You’re a witch. Awesome.” And then Faye is obviously not the nicest of the group. So there’s this crazy dynamic between Cassie and all of these different characters in the coven, and you’ll see these relationships develop more throughout the series.
It’s great, because she has such a different relationship to each and every one of them.
I think it’s possible. Anything is possible in the world of The CW. They love love interests. That’s probably a better question for the writers, but I definitely think it’s a possibility.
Will we be seeing those characters interacting more beyond the pilot?
Oh, totally. Totally. Now that Cassie has understood that this is a bigger thing than was first presented to her, she’s faced with this decision to really embrace this new world, or run from it, and I think that you’ll find that she stands up and learns to jump into it, and because of that, she will have to interact with the coven a little more than in the pilot.
Cassie’s going to have a new friend with Sally coming in. Can you talk about that relationship?
Yeah. She’s our little Muggle friend, Sally. Logan Browning is playing her, and she’s fantastic. She’s super fun, and really cool, and I think she just brings a totally different spark to the show than what we have, and she’s a really fun character. You’ll get to see Cassie in a more normal world than the crazy, magical, blah that you’ve seen her in so far.
Is there any way that you play Cassie that deviates from the books?
When you read a script, I think there’s always the script of yourself in every character. For me, personally, I try and take each character and make it my own, and I think I’ve done that with Cassie in a way, but still keeping to the structure of who she is from the books, and obviously through the story, but giving her a life and a voice. So you’ll see certain things, like I’m working with a lot of physicality, just to express to the audience who Cassie is, and I think that stems from me. But other than that, I try and separate the personal from the work.
